I am looking to stop-tail my bigsby, as I never use it and I'm looking for increased tuning stability.

My most recent thought on this is to simply pull the spring out, which would keep the vibrato arm pulled down with the string tension and eliminate any wobble.

The only potential problem I can see is that if I were to break a string (which I haven't in years) then it would change the tension, which could potentially detune the guitar... But thats not a big risk.

Are there any other problems that I'm not seeing? Should that work?

Just change out the tailpiece for a trapeze style. Solid as a rock.
