From what I gather from previous threads, a lot of people suggest that you should make your own patches. But kits for that are kinda expensive compared to the price of pre-made packs.

Any suggestions for brands? I need right angles mostly. I'm also not looking to pay extensively for a single patch.
Planet Waves are what I use, I can't really hear much of a difference if any with cables though...

I just bought some from amazon. A pack of 6 x 6 inches with right angle plugs. I forget what I paid but it was less than $20. I think they are Hosa brand. That was the best deal I found after doing some searching.
If you only need a few, pre-made are the way to go. If you see yourself making custom length patch cables regularly (a common symptom of GAS), buying the supplies (or butchering old cables) is the way to go.

I've used the cheap guitar center ones sitting in the bucket on the counter for years, never gave me any issues. "Tone" Purest will argue to the death about that, but you ain't gonna ever hear the difference between a $5 patch cable or a $20 patch cable.

When it comes to 5 feet or more, then money means tone.
I just buy the cheapest cables I can find at the music store and hack them up.

I haven't found a cheaper way, even online. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

Cable - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bulk-Cable-Evidence-Audio-Monorail-5-feet-Authorized-Dealer-/170916650202?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item27cb6d1cda

Connectors - http://www.ebay.com/itm/20-1-4-Right-Angle-Pancake-Plugs-TS-Connector-GLS-Audio-Pedal-Board-32-232-/390620352580?pt=US_Cables_Snakes_Interconnects&hash=item5af2c99044

Initial Investment - $54.74 (assuming you already have soldering equipment)

Each connector is ~$2 and 6" of cable is ~$1.48; two connectors + 6" of cable = ~$5.48

You could opt for Canare GS-6 cable instead of the Evidence Audio Monorail and cut the cost down to ~$.50 per 6" which would make it ~$4.50 per 6" patch cable - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sold-by-the-Foot-Raw-Canare-GS-6-Professional-Instrument-Guitar-Cable-/301246973675?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item4623b806eb

You can make the cable shorter or longer depending on your needs. The pancake connectors make it easier to sandwich pedals together on pedalboards.
