Hey guys! I am not very good at lead guitar so this may be a very easy question.

What is the guitarist doing in this solo (about 4:00 in)? It sounds like a mix of small sweeps and muting, and there are a lot of staccatos. Is that what he's doing, or....?

He's not really playing staccato by technique, that's just the way that kind of guitar sounds; it's almost certainly some kind of hollowbody given the kind of music it is.

As for what he is doing... yeah, sounds like there's some little sweep type ideas there, a lot of straight up alternate picking I think, it's really quite hard to tell from just that track because it's quite a jumble of notes...
