While in my fiancee's hometown for Christmas, her dad and I went to Guitar Center because that's what we do. These beauties were sitting in the used locker in the pro audio section for $99 each. I did my research, made sure they weren't Chinese (read up on that history if you're ever in the market for these things) and snapped them up.

I present to you, my pair of Oktava MK-319 microphones!

I set them up in XY for some stereo acoustic guitar tests tonight (had to order shockmounts which finally arrived today) and they sounded fantastic! How fantastic? Well, here's a clip:

IR Reverb only, no other effects.

They're going to sound great on everything I track: vocals, guitars, drums, and supposedly even bass cabs (though I have my doubts). I can't wait to try them with the Glyn Johns technique on drums, it's gonna kick ass.

So pumped to do some legit tracking with these in the next few weeks!

Nice score! I really dig these Oktavas. Been thinking of picking up a pair for a while but I need to get my room sorted out first before I buy anymore gear...

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

Thanks! Yeah, don't think too hard about it - just make sure they're not Chinese and you're not paying over $150 each, and you'll get a killer deal.

I highly doubt I'm going to Joly mod these any time soon, but I love knowing that I have the option.

Can't wait to try one of these through my GAP73, that clip was straight into my Duet 2's preamps. It's gonna be warrrrrm!

These mics are so warm - how warm? That clip I recorded was through crystal clear preamps (no color) and it was an all-maple solid wood guitar with a satin finish. It's the loudest and brightest acoustic guitar I've ever played. It's almost as bright as my telecaster.
