What is the best example of sad white boy music in your opinion

There is a lot of sad white boy music but I think it is probably epitomised by The Wonder Years who are so very sad and do edgy things like accidentally cutting themselves and hope the scar lasts so they can remember the pain of that day for years to come

Other top sad white boy bands are Balance and Composure and Real Friends and Citizen who are all super sad and angsty

Please share your sad white boy music so we can all be sad together

Elliott Smith, whom I love. So if this is a let's laugh at white music then i retract my post.

Nah I like white music

Same for that chick from London Grammar

I'd be happy to provide one by the way

Elliott Smith made sad music and happened to be white, I would never say he made "sad whiteboy music" in context of it's meaning ITT. Elliott's misery was real, unlike the lame-ass first-world problems music that has been posted.

The Smiths - How soon is now

Pretty much all the Smiths.

Its not the music that's depressing, its the concept of the band.

But to be honest, nothing makes a white boy sadder than other white boys trying to be black:

#whiteboybad (thrash, 2015)

im so proud :'-)

the antlers are both #whiteboysad and #whiteboybad

this is good sad white boy music because it sounds genuinely sad music by white boys not 'sad white boy' music.

well maybe excluding Drake.

btw this is the ultimate white boy bad song.

Does Saosin count? I mean they're pretty whiny, sad and white privileged.

They are also male thus fitting the criteria.

I love Saosin but they are more angsty than sad for me.

American Football - The Summer Ends
The Antlers - Putting the Dog to Sleep
Arcade Fire - Old Flame
Backstreet Boys - Incomplete (**** the h8rs)
Balance and Composure - Separation
blink-182 - I Miss You (Like I mentioned in the Taylor Swift thread, some songs I actually think are shit but I like but I can't explain why I have contradictory feelings about them. I feel this way about like, every blink-182 song)
Brand New is my favourite band, so Brand New's discography. To name some, my favourite song ever is "You Won't Know" (which sounds more aggressive but that lyrical theme is depressing). Some more that I love; I won't link 'cause you might as well just listen to Deja Entendu and The Devil and God [...] and a bit of Daisy:
  • "Jesus Christ"
  • "At the Bottom,"
  • "I Will Play My Game Beneath the Spin Light"
  • "Jaws Theme Swimming"
  • "Limousine"
  • "Luca"
  • "Play Crack the Sky"
  • "The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot"
  • "Millstone"
  • "Guernica"

The Bravery - Above and Below
Chiodos - Intensity In Ten Cities (This song is jokes but dat piano arrangement)
Also a big City and Colour fan...
  • "The Death of Me"
  • "Sleeping Sickness"
  • "O'Sister"
  • "Death's Song"
  • "Sorrowing Man"

Coldplay - The Scientist (How has this thread not yet had a mention of "Fix You?)
Copeland - Chin Up
Coyote Theory - Vibe (This is like the catchiest song I know, but the lyrics are meant to be about some kind of grievance over a loss. It doesn't fit much but I try to rep it every time I can because I think it's so great that everyone should experience it)
A Day to Remember - If It Means a Lot to You (Actually, I really don't like this song, it's just another one that I'd have expected to have been mentioned, especially since EndTheRapture51 made the thread)
The Dear Hunter - Lillian (Violet) (Incredible song, a must listen if you are into theatrical music)
The Decemberists - O Valencia
Ed Sheeran - Afire Love (not even my favourite sad Sheeran song but it's the most sad, the rest aren't really that sad)
Someone already covered Elliott Smith for me
Fall Out Boy - Sugar We're Goin Down (Yeah, I said it, hello Eastwinn, RylanThePotato, and MinterMan22)
Fall Out Boy - What a Catch, Donnie
I'd have more Fall Out Boy songs as I really like the band but I never know what the songs' topics are.
Farewell Fighter - It's All the Hips (It's an upbeat breakup song, RIYL pop-punk)
The Format - Dog Problems (It's sad for about half the song)
The Fray - Never Say Never
fun. - Why Am I The One (not the best fun. song, but I love this and so it's worthy of a mention. But I guess I covered this with The Format)
Go Radio - Go to Hell (Piano Version) (The original is way more upbeat)
A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera
Jack's Mannequin - Restless Dream (Not even a fan of McMahon but I like this song a lot)
I'm also quite the John Mayer fan and he often epitomises sad white boy,

  • "Heartbreak Warfare"
  • "Friends, Lovers, or Nothing"*
  • "Stop This Train*
  • "Slow Dancing In a Burning Room"
  • "Dreaming With a Broken Heart"
  • "In Repair"*
  • "I'm Gonna Find Another You"*
  • "Split Screen Sadness" (I actually hate this song but it was perfect for a brief moment in time when I was sad because of a relationship)
  • "Wheel"*
  • "I Will Be Found (Lost At Sea)"
  • "Your Body Is a Wonderland" - saddest of 'em all

    *Sad is debatable

Jonny Craig - Children of Divorce (Actually a shit song but dat voice)
Justin Timberlake - What Goes Around, Comes Around
letlive. - Muther
Lydia - Your Taste Is My Attention
Man Overboard - Montrose (Another shit song but it fits the sad white boy stereotype, maybe if you like pop-punk you'd be into it)
Manchester Orchestra - Where Have You Been? (I have plenty more but I can't be bothered to do another list)
Neil Young - Oh, Lonesome Me (Actually a cover but I've not heard the original)
Pierce the Veil - Caraphernelia (This band would be improve immensely if it had a singer that had an immensely piercing [heh] voice. Also, I cheated, they're Mexicans but you could swear they are white)
Sam Smith - I've Told You Now (Plus those two songs still on the radio, you know 'em)
Saves the Day
  • "At Your Funeral
  • "Sound the Alarm"
  • "Bones"
  • "You Vandal"
  • "Anywhere With You"
  • "Eulogy"

Silverstein & Lights - The End (This is the closing song to a concept album, so really any song from that album but this is my favourite and it kind of encompasses most of the emotion and covers all of the ground)
Sleeping With Sirens - If You Can't Hang (Man, this used to be one of my favourite bands. Now this band is really ****ing lame)
The Smiths
  • "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now"
  • "I Know It's Over"
  • "Cemetery Gates"
  • "Asleep"
  • "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want This Time"

Stevie Ray Vaughan - I'm Cryin' (I mean, it's not a great song but it's the sad "Pride and Joy" which I love)
Sunny Day Real Estate - Sometimes
We Are the Emergency - All We Ever See of Stars Are Their Old Photographs
The Wonder Years - We Won't Bury You (~I'm not sad anymore~ This is probably the only The Wonder Years song that is sad. The band members lost their friend to a drug overdose)

I heard you might be looking for a sad Saosin meets Alexisonfire, so I was sent here to get you to check out We Are the Emergency's Seizure EP. This saves me from having to put in my previous post.
Sad white boys can't exist. They have all the privilege.

I can't believe you are whoring yourself out like that.

Lolss, this thread. A Revisitation and Update to the Framework upon #sadwhiteboy; in order to affirm that you can be 'über'-sadboy, and yet still not a flaming pussboy nihilist.

She thinks I'm iron man that I don't feel pain
I don't understand why joy must be feigned
I'm so fortunate yet filled with self hate
That the mirror shows me an ingrate

I could easily start pointing fingers
Since the blame is mine it always lingers
That the truth it lies in my reflection
Though this can't go on there's no question

Yeah I know
That my world is coming down
Yeah I know
I know
I'm the one who brought it down
Brought it down
Bring it on down

How quickly pass the days long is the night
Lying in bed awake bathed in starlight
Better to live as king of beasts
Than as a lamb scared and weak

I will deny my role as a human
Holding myself hostage with no demands
It's better to burn (to burn) quickly and bright
Than slowly and dull (and dull) without a fight

Well I know
That my world is coming down
Now I know
I know
I'm the one that brought it down
Brought it down
Yeah, Bring it on down

I don't know what a white boy sounds like.

You lost me at "Lubricate."

I'm raw, like nature. Nature boy. Big jungle leaves are my cum rags.

Sometimes I fuck a bamboo shoot.

There's nothing left here to be saved
Just barreling dogs and barking trains
Another year lost to the blue line
