interesting. peavey hasn't come out with any really new tube amps in a while but at least they are updating some of their front runners.

So they made a 6505 with the same tube complement as the VK mini? something sounds fishy there. I call SS components

They already have the Classic 30, why do you need a classic 20?

An anniversary 6505, is there any difference other than the "gold"?

The 6505 Mini looks decent. Oh, and I have a question, are the cleans on a a Peavey Classic 30 good?

So the 50th anniversary amps are the same and the standard, except for gold bits? Thats kinda disappointing.

Their classic series is really "Fender-ish" based amps. The mini head for that looks cool. As much of a tank my 6505+ is to carry around I think I'd rather stick with power over portability. Not saying the mini is a bad idea by no means.
#18
I bet the mini 6505 is just like the Mini Rectifier. Doesn't sound enough like the amp its trying to copy.

typo on the classic 20 script, it says EL34s and EL84s in different parts of the ad.

I was thinking he same thing here. You lose 2 preamp tubes and changed the power tubes to EL34s but add functionality. Hmmm. I guess as long as it sounds good. And frankly, Peavey does awesome stuff with solid state modeling between the Vypyrs and Revalver.

If fx loop is solid state, thats one tube down. If there is more gain stage sharing between channels that MAY be another tube down. Or the input stage and/or phase inverter is SS like blackstars. But does it sound like 6505 anymore? Thats the big question.

It could be just error too and Classic specs are confused with the new 6505. *edit* unlikely though. I saw this news elsewhere and they where in one news post. But peavey has them separate and it clearly states 3 preamp tubes.

I'm glad they did something because something is better than nothing - unfortunately, I don't see anything groundbreaking. I new tubed Vypy VIP 100 head is what I was hoping for. It would also be nice if they came out with some better cabs.

I would like to see a 50/100w (switchable, no need to actually pull the tubes) tube poweramp built along the model of the Randall RM's where I can put damn near any power tube in it I want mated to an updated modeling preamp, perhaps with profiling capabilities like the KPA.

For $699

Is that asking for too much? I think NOT!!

It is asking for a little too much. It's too expensive for a modeling amp when Peavey already has the Classic 30 and 6505+ combo in the same pricerange. They also have the Valvekings. And now they have the Classic 20 and the mini 6505 for $500. Peavey already has too many full-featured tube amps that are cheaper than that Vypyr tube will be. If it sounds worse than those amps as it probably would, then no one will buy it at that price. If it sounds better, then no one will buy the other amps. Peavey doesn't benefit from either of those outcomes.

IMO peavey has been coasting along comfortably for too long (with the exception of the vypyrs). they obviously sell the **** out of the 6505's so no need to change what is not broken, but the XXX JSX circuits (IIRC 3120 and XXX2) are dated. classic 30 is old news (but good tone) too

it just seems like they didn't have much issue with budget level competitors, now you have randall back in the game with their amps Jet City, and Bugera, and other brands are advancing too.

and if they are doing some SS bullshit with the mini heads i would be pissed.

and yea the gold 5150 is fuggly.

Man, I would not hate having a 6505 downsized to keep in my room. That being said I'm sure it's the same price or more of a used head, sadly.

Some morons are already going through the process of selling their Peavey USA heads for this even though it's possible this new 6505 will be absolute dog shit.
