Saw this over at guitarampboard dot com

As you may have heard Mike Soldano has pulled out of the Jet City relationship. Not sure why exactly. Then I saw this

The 327 (as is Chevy 327ci small block V8)

Interesting.

100 watts
4 - 5881s
6 - 12AX7s
Deep knob

To paraphrase:
"We wanted to preserve the overall iconic feel of the SLO100 but modernize it a bit."

I've heard more and more lately about Diamond Amplification. I wonder if this collaboration will push them up higher in the minds of us high gainers? I'm not totally sold on the aesthetics but I don't hate it either. I will be curious to hear how they sound and the opinions of those better than I.

I tried to find some sound clips of it but came up empty. I mostly just want to hear what they mean by modernizing a SLO.

Interesting. I've had several chances over the years to pick up a Diamond and I've always passed because of the terrible resale value and next to no good demos. Wish I could try one in person.

I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

I understand the Jet City partnership since they're a cheaper brand but Diamond USA is pretty expensive. Why is he working with them to design an amp to "modernize" a SLO100? Is he not with Soldano anymore like VHT and Fryette or Dean and DBZ? Why not just make a new Soldano?

My guess is that it has something to do with all those Jet City amps that have been dumped at steep discounts on Musician’s Friend. Jet City isn’t exactly batting a thousand.

And I’ll further guess that Soldano is at Diamond because he’s probably a hard sell. If you want to bring Soldano’s sound to market there’s a lot of competition coming from Peavey, EVH, Jet City, and Bugera.

It was just announced (in time for NAMM) so I wasn't really expecting clips yet myself but I'm sure there will be some in the coming days/weeks.

Oh I love racing stripes

I think it was that CEC TFE amp that josephde got that gave me the initial boner.

This 327 control panel clashes with the stripes though and rubs me the wrong way. Change that up bit and maybe 'center' the channels knobs and it would be more appealing to me but I'm superficial like that

He still runs Soldano. This is just a collaboration (like Jet City). I attached the original article in the OP.

See above. He's not at Diamond - only collaborating with Jeff Diamant on some amps - so it appears.

^ if god helps us they'll keep the current production JCA's and come up with new ideas.
Or they discontinue the current ones, but please, please, ffs please let's not have them calling different, in-house designed amps with the same names as the current ones.

Does this mean they'll make a hella tight (herbert/powerball II) but still hella clear (vh4/SL100) amp?

Please tell me that's it

Soldano's done some incredible work but it gives the appearance that he's whoring his name out to anyone that can make him a dime these days...

Perhaps that's not it at all, but that's what it looks like.

I agree.

I kind of cringed when I heard the news about his initial partnership with Jet City. Nothing against the amps but the whole thing didn't sit well with me. I know A LOT of people really like these amps so my opinion is definitely not popular. I've played a few now and I don't get what all the hype is about. They also seemed kind of cheaply made to me. I'm also pretty sure my opinion on the amps themselves is biased as much as I like to pretend that I don't let things like this bias my opinions.

Interesting.

Just based on description, sounds like it could be good for the modern metal crowd, but I get the feeling that Soldano isn't really into that kind of ultra compressed sound.

I think it's mostly a "what's better for the price?" situation.

Being from Houston, Diamond used to sell somewhat well, so I've seen a few bands with their other models and for the price, I can't say I was impressed. They all had a Pantera thing going on (the bands) and the amps were fuzzed out mess kinda like a 5150 or a Krank.
Considering how expensive they are and virtually no resale value, I'd wait probably a while and pick one used if it is good.

Talking about name whoring, Bogner and Egnater are right up there as well.
