Once upon a time
you wished for a peace of mind
out of principle.

A life of fallacy
soon became your sole domain.
You preserved your virginity
with the wildest of expectations;
It was never your fault
when you lost it to your step father,
one faithful night.
No one ever taught you
how to be humbled.
No one can hear you
now that the neighbours are here.

I heard the police sirens,
but the feds were never watching.
I found you in bedlam,
your preface never changed
as you whispered “this is the part of me
that is truly nothing”.
