how would they fit in a ibanez 1570 Prestige? they have the mount to the body without a pickup ring. the dimarzios i threw in another Pristege (2570) had the ends so they were mounted that way.

am i missing something obvious? i am fine with the electronics, i just want to know how the pickups fit.

85 and 60 i am thinking ATM. i don't need coil spilting needed. will run @ 18V so yea, how are they mounted?

(old pic. its the guitar on the left).

The active pickups in my Loomis just mount right onto the body. That's what I did when I replaced the 707s with Blackouts. Just screwed them right in.

Might double-check the length. Make sure there is no danger of the screw going through the body because of a deep rout or a screw that is too long. Some horror stories.....

Other than that...

Also, sexy Splawn on the left with KT88s?

Not really understanding the issue.

Did a quick search and the only thing that may slow your progress is having to sand/file a small bit of each pickup to get them to fit. The small ring/tab the screw goes through, I'm assuming. Shouldn't have any problems mounting them directly in the cavity.

I thought that they didn't have that ring on the side. I hadn't seen them close for a while not mounted in a ring or pickguard. File what?

what would you do with the middle? Just eliminate it? I don't use the single coil on it anyways so just wire up the the EMGs and leave the center pickup inactive?

File bits off this, probably.

..... Maybe. I can't say for sure without the guitar and pickup in my hands. You'll know if you need to when you get to that part.

What I would do with the middle, if I intended to use it: EMG SA.

If not, remove it or just leave it in there and disconnect it. Probably tape off the ends of the exposed wires so it doesn't **** anything up. I don't know. I'm no electrician. Just seems like a smart thing to do.

Maybe install a 3-way switch as well?

Food for thought: Lace Alumitone Deathbuckers deliver a tone similar to EMGs, and are passives. Very lightweight, too.

i listened to some demos and they sound good, but in comparison in the second video, its a blackstar HT, and recorded with a shity mic. hard to seperate. i think i liked the EMG's more to be honest. and i like the 85 better than the 81. i hate youtube demos but sometimes you gotta do it.

i am thinking EMG's

sorry i didn't mean to come off as an ass. its just tone videos drive me nuts, you don't know the settings on the amp, the pedals (i could hear him hitting an OD at one point), etc. then to top it off with a phone or camerae sound quality doesn't help either. i know that nothing is ever perfect.

i really DO like the sound of the deathbucker, and will throw it into a different guitar someday.

what are your thoughts on a 85 in the bridge? i had one a long time ago and liked it back then.

are there any other good mainstream humbuckers for a similar tone? i am clueless by the way. it needs to hit hard. i do not like X2N's at all. biased dimarzio over SD. don't want to go over $200.

i think part of me wants emgs, as it that it will be in C# std. and i like EMG's droptuned.

further thoughts?

maybe look up jemsite? Ages back I was looking into an RGA121 (which also has direct-mount pickups) and I have a vague recollection of people there saying EMGs didn't fit without a little, er, "persuasion". So I'd err on the side of caution before buying them for your 1570.

also i really don't want to fuss with getting the EMG's into the ibby. maybe i will go with alumatone deathbuckers if the fit right. or just go with a different dimarzio set (one has tz/and the other cl/lq).

yeah the star shape is really cool. I like it anyway. not the best upper fret access though- but yours being neck-thru might help a bit with that. although really the problem with mine is more the shape of the upper horn, it gets in the way of some of my fingers. i guess it's my superlax unhoned technique

but yeah if the emgs don't fit in the ibby without a fuss and you got the charvel cheap with them stock (assuming it's a half-decent guitar), seems the sensible thing to not bother with EMGs in the ibby.
