recently picked up this head and I'm looking for a good 2x12 to pair with it. I'm lead guitar in a pop rock band, I've been looking at the orange 2x12, seen a jim root 2x12 on CL for cheap, not sure how those pair with the mesa. any recommendations?

budget?i would go orange or mesa myself. have multiple of both. you probably want closed back though.

Either a mesa with C90's or an orange PPC.

The jim root one might work, though be advised it has some "custom design" speakers from orange (or more likely some OEM factory) instead of the v30's you find in the other PPC's.
Name's Luca.

Clue: amplifiers amplify so don't turn it on if you need quiet.

Do you know what type of speaker you want? Celestion V30s typically work well with that amp. Basically if you know what type of speakers you want that will help narrow down the cabs to production models or something like Avatar where they will install almost anything you would want.
Guitars:
Ibanez RG1570 Prestige
Jackson Kelly KE3 - MIJ (Distortion/Jazz)
Jackson DKMGT Dinky (EMG 81/85)
ESP E-II Eclipse Custom (JB/'59)
ESP LTD EC-1001FR (EMG 81/60)
Fender MIM Strat

Amps:
Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier Roadster 212
Laney IronHeart IRT-Studio
Peavey Vypyr 30
Peavey ReValver Amp Sims
TOOOO many T.C. Electronic Pedals. . .

Get the Mesa Recto cab or an Orange PPC

The Avatar link is great so you can customize the color, style and speaker choice

Yeah, but I take it TS is in the US so that would be a bit impractical.

How about an Avatar with a pair of V30s? really tough to beat for the price.

^^^ This! A really good match for the Mesa and lots of choices for cab design.

I would have to agree as well on the Avatar.

Custom look and they have a wide variety of speakers you can chose from at very reasonable prices.

Contact Dave there if you can - great to work with. I think he owns the joint.

Also check out their Hellatone brand speakers. Just rebranded Celestions that they break in.

Sturdy cabinet construction but maybe just slightly less than say a Mesa or Orange cab. Def worth the price though.

i am not sold on avatar. i have one, its the fender style one, i thought it be seemingly more solid. i paid $150 for it with two EVH cellestions and two V30's, (not the best complement). but the spot where something hit it and it smuched a bit more than i thought it would have. none of my other cabs have done that.

the best thing is the speaker choice.

i haven't tried one (311 has one) but i want a splawn cab (to match my splawn heads). i haven't heard anything bad. but it may be more expensive.

^ so you had a problem with the tolex?

Agreed they are not as robust as a Mesa, Orange or Splawn cab.

$150 just for those speakers alone is a hella deal.

PS: you can get a brand new Splawn 4x12 cab from Splawn custom made with their new Duratex coating (no tolexing no fuss) for $650 I think. Check it.

Oh...and here is a pic of my old avatar cab.
