I have $400 to buy an amp.
I play a 2005 SG Standard.
I like Sabbath,AC DC,Judas Priest and basically early metal thru the 80's.
I would like something 30-50 wats.
Suggestions please.

The biggest Peavey Vypir you would find. Maybe a Vypir tube but they're hard to find.
Or perhaps go used and look for a Marshall DSL401 combo. That would be good for Priest and AC/DC.
Something like a Laney Iommi combo or an Orange Dark Terror for Black Sabbath.
If you look around used you might find each and every one of those.

EDIT:Answer the question below mine and tell us which country you live in.

This is for home use.
I'm in the U.S.A.

Look for one of the amps I recommended and you can't go wrong for sure.

ok if you need new then a Peavey VIP series would be a good bet (they replaced the older vypyr series). used can open up more options. do you have a semi-decent music store near you?
#8
look at Jet City or perhaps for a used Peavey Valveking. you may be able to find a used Marshall DSL 40 combo for what you have as well.
#9
If you can find a used Laney VC50 combo that would be stellar. More or less the same circuit as Tony Iommi's signature amp.
Gibson RD Silverburst w/ Lace Dissonant Aggressors (SOLD)
Electra Omega Prime Ceruse
Fender Franken-Jag Bass

Amps and the like:
Laney VH100R
Seismic Luke 2x12
Dunlop 105Q Wah
Gojira FX 808
Line 6 M9

how quietly do you have to play at home?
I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

I'd suggest a used Egnater Rebel 30. It's an extremely versatile amp but excels at crunchy growl like tone.
Fender Mustang/Derfenstein DST> Boss Power Wah> Pedal Monsters Klone> Bogner Uberschall> Walrus Audio Janus> Randall RM20> Line 6 M9> Randall RM20

+1 to the DSL rec. marshalls played a pretty big part of 80's in general. DSL's sound pretty good and can be had for your requirement.

laney may be worth looking into.

I think I will just save more for the Marshall DSL 401 combo.
Dose that amp take pedals well?

that is good thinking. the 401's own the 15c and the newer DSL40c. the time will be worth it.

the 401 is a JCM2000 DSL401. they are better built and better sounding than the 40c which are the newer models that are IMO (and in many others) they dont' stack up to the JCM2000 DSL's.

they do have heads, the JCM2000 DSL 50 or 100. i honestly prefer the 50.

Thanks everyone.

how dose the jtm 30 compare to the 401?

The 401 is more versatile and has a channel voiced more modern. It has 2 modes per channel. the classic channel has the clean and classic overdrive on it and the lead channel has a hot rod JCM800 toan
