First I will admit I do not know a lot about live sound. I have set up some space in my house for rehearsal. My current gear is:

2 Peavey PR12 powered speakers.
Cheap beringer mixer ( 4 channel)
1 SM58 mic.

Guitar and amp are not mic'd.

Playing and singing with acoustic this set up has OK volume. With electric and drums, not even close to enough volume. I would think the PR12's would have plenty of volume.

So the question is do I need a better mixer, a power amp or both?

Thanks for the help.

where are the speakers setting? if they are on the floor, you need to get them up to ear level maybe a set of speaker stands if you don't already have them.

These should work just fine

Right now they are on a table about waist high on there sides so the sound is projecting up.

Stands are definitely on the short list to buy though.

Yeah. put them on stands and you should have no issues hearing yourself.

Your mixer may not have a lot of gain available, but I have a Behringer 802 mixerI use for practice and I don't have any issues and I play in a loud band

Gotcha. I'll give stands a shot. I actually have the 1202 8 channel mixer so It should be a problem.

It seems just the vocals are weak. When I stream music through the system it cranks.

what are the settings on the mixer your using and what do you have the preamp gain set to?

Have you tried the mic on a different channel?

Ahh, I think I figured it out. Most of the settings are at 12 and I had the gain set to 12:30ish. any more than that I start to get feedback. However, I was running the mic through an old Yamaha fx500 fx processor to take advantage of some reverb. The line signal on the processor was barely turned on. I should be good to go now.

Thanks for the help!
