It didn't take long to realise
The safest place was not her arms, but her eyes
Where she can't see you
For her gaze, it blisters;
Grey skin to cinders

While gentle derision flickers its last
Casting shadows that dance, wilfully,
Between parting friends
Or failed first lovers

Burns heal, slowly, and anger leaves
Regret for sweet words unsaid
Falling short in their flight

With leagues between us and new lives in tow
All I could ever want her to know

Is that I'm sorry

[It's taken about two years, but I finally made myself finish this piece.]
It didn't take long to realise
The safest place was not her arms, but her eyes
Where she can't see you
For her gaze, it blisters;
Grey skin to cinders

loved the metaphors, loved the imagery. The rhythm was what really made the beautiful words flow and stand out in their own unique way. 10/10
If you do something right, no one will know you've done anything at all
