I'm looking to buy a hundred watt tube head with hopes of high gain with definition. I used to own a JCM 2000 DSL and that was great but I'm thinking I might want to try something different and the HT-100 looked interesting. Any thoughts?

Couldn't have put it better.

Never liked the ones I tried to be honest.

I would honestly go for the Marshall, but that's just me. The Blackstars are hybrid whilst being marketed as all tube, and that's what makes people hostile to them.

Try out the Blackstar, and if you like it, go for it. If you feel the Marshall you owned feels better to you then get that.

This forum is a wrong place to ask about Blackstars due to shady marketing when it comes to HT serie, but they do have a strong fanbase for a reason. Go and try one and see if you if you like it. I liked one a lot when i heard it being played at a shop.

This is true, but I didn't like the HT series before I even heard of that. I heard a lot of great things and when I actually played one I thought it was mediocre, and I really did not like the gain channel.

same here. they just don't sound that great. JCM2000 DSL's are pretty nice. i would recommend going with the 50watt, i liked it better than the 100. and i had the luxury of trying them both on 1960a cabs next to eachother, the 50 was a little bit more lively, but even if you got the 100watt i am almost positive that you could pull a pair of POWER tubes to get it down to 50 watts (i would as cath before you did it though, i only can remember so much).

I have a feeling that on the 2000's it's left two or right two. Easy enough to test; pull 'em and see.

Blackstar HT series is very meh imo. DSLs are pretty nice. Maybe look for a JCM900 SL-X, one of the most underrated Marshalls. Not quite as versatile as the DSL though.

I tried out a HT 40 and wasn't very impressed. Was all set to buy it after hearing reviews and watching vids on youtube.

The JCM 2000 is a badass amp. It's really one of the standard gigging amps for for rock-metal music. The more reasonable comparison to make between amps is JCM 2000 vs a Blackstar Series One. The problem is that the Series One is like $500 more on the used market so it's rarely worth it.

i don't know your budget. maybe save a bit more and go for a splawn quickrod. there really isn't a comparison at all between the QR and the DSL and HT.

i got my promod for like $950ish. and i paid $1050 for the nitro. if you look around on forums, sometimes you can get lucky, but you have to be patient. but i should say it was three or four years ago so things may change.

IIRC ippon was selling one.
