So I picked up a used Snakebyte that has 10-52s and I like them (I usually use 9-46 on an SG). I won't be doing very much bending on this guitar as it's mainly for rhythm section Metallica covers, and the bends I do need to do are easily manageable. I'll probably put a bone nut on it but I'm not sure if I should get it cut for 10-52. I may at some point want to go back down to 10-46.

I know when you go up in gauge you need to get wider slots, but what's the consensus on going back down? The thickness difference on the bass side between 10-46 and 10-53 is quite significant so I wonder if it will cause tuning/intonation issues, buzzing, etc.

No.

The difference in gauge isn't big enough to cause any problems, provided that the nut is cut well.

Awesome, thanks.
