I might be buying a Jackson SLSMG that originally had EMGHZ's. Now it has EMG 81/85 combo with 18v mod and a boost switch instead of a tone knob. It was all done by someone else. Think it's safe to buy? Would I miss the tone knob? What do you guy's think?

its hard to be 'not safe' it could work or not work though. the boost is the EMG afterburner. i had one, the boost is REALLY loud when engaged. its hard to mess up that wouldn't be an easy fix. i haven't ever used a tone knob on a metal-geared guitar into a high gain amp. i may once in a while on a tele or strat, into a clean or slightly dirty amp. from my experience, if you are using a high gain amp, turning the tone knob back just muddles the tone up. that is through even a very well defined amp as well.
