(almost) head-on collision with a tractor, goddamn nearly crushed to death by the wheel when it went over the car. 13 July 2011

EDIT: forgot to mention that I was so traumatised by it that I can't go along a back road and pass another car in the opposite direction without flinching and wanting to just scream.

Never been in a traffic accident. Rode my bicycle into a parked car once though. Totally wrecked the license plate.

You ok though?

Totaled the front end of my parents car driving out of town to my girlfriends house a few years ago. Some chick in a minivan was on the phone and tried to swerve around me while I was turning.

Also there was a bank robbery this morning and it ended in a highspeed chase. I think five cars were totaled and the one that was running literally tore their car in half.

Yeah I'm fine, my chest hurts a little bit where the seat belt stopped me. My car is a little bit busted but I think it will be fine after repairs. The police told me I should win the case since the other guy invaded my lane to do a turn. Hopefully I don't have to pay much of anything because I'm broke as ****.

Sucks dude but at least you're okay.

I've been in a few car accidents myself but nothing too serious and nothing I really think about too often.

I've been in a couple fender-benders that were quickly and quietly resolved without the involvement of insurance companies. In 2001 I drove my girlfriend's mom's car off the interstate after a snowstorm. I was going too fast and lost my shit, the car spun one and a half times and I skidded across the median into oncoming traffic and slid back into the median. I was narrowly missed by two semi trucks on the westbound lanes and a gaggle of cars in the eastbound lanes. After we got the car out of the ditch we drove it home. No other vehicles involved, no obvious damage to the car, no injuries to either of us. The state police stopped to make sure we were okay and that was it, not even a citation. Close one indeed. Probably used up all my good karma for years to come. Driving in the snow on the highway was pretty stressful too me for quite a while after that.

In 2002 I was a passenger in my friend's car when some punk ass high school kids swerved around a car that had stopped to turn left on a highway. We were in the oncoming lane, and they dodged for the borrow pit so we didn't hit the dead on, but we did hit the right quarter panel of their S-10 pickup. Totaled my friend's Escort. Airbags deployed, which was good because his dad had taken out the automatic shoulder harnesses, and otherwise we'd have eaten steering wheel and dashboard. The seam of the airbag busted me in the mouth so hard my lips swelled up to bad-plastic-surgery proportions, and the explosive deployment ruptured my right eardrum. I settled for their insurance paying the ER visit and a few hundred bucks for my trouble, because the PA who examined me at the ER didn't check my ears, and it was a couple years before another doctor noticed the damaged. Never settle for peanuts. Make sure you're totally okay first.

I ride a motorcycle, and thus take my life in my hands every time I go out. I can say it's getting increasingly dangerous despite law enforcement's efforts to reduce phone and device use while driving. Those cases are difficult to win for the agencies, and so many people just flat refuse to take the laws seriously...or worse, realize that they are severely compromising their ability to drive and endangering others.

Glad you're okay. Seatbelts ftw

yeah man I always wear seatbelts and I'm glad to say this time the seatbelt probably saved a few of my front teeth and most likely my nose. Also I'm super glad that my car is kinda old. My car almost sustained no damage while the guy's was a complete wreck. I mean I feel bad for him because he seamed like a nice guy and the car was brand new but damn he should learn how to drive. :/

Anyways just got back from the police station getting my case number (or however it's called in English) and now I have to do all the insurance stuff.

Not in a car while it happened but while walking about 7-8 years ago and old guy who wasnt suppose to be driving flew up onto to sidewalk and hit me and my ex from behind in a south park-esque manner. I flew half a block and split my skull in half and had to have put back together with a few dozen staples. I had a concussion earlier that year from playing hockey and the accident left me with post-concussion symdrome that sidney crosby would be jealous of. Pretty much felt no emotions.. dumped the girl i had been dating for years so i could sleep around, stole shit and manipulated people with absolutely no remorse. Had to redo an entire year of school because i either couldnt make it to class or couldnt remember anything. Then got addicted to painkillers, so it was one hell of an experience.

Im 25 now i dont have my license. A lot of people assume its because of that but it isnt really. That scared me off for a few years yeab but then i moved to college in a new town and it wasnt an option. Now i live a minute and a half away from work and a grocery store and it wasnt a huge goal from since i got my house. Im going for it this month tho and i pretty excited caus i can afford a car and insurance.

My mom and I were in a slow speed head-on when I was 10...beat us up pretty bad and totaled the car but things turned out alright.

I was coming back from Houston about 6 months ago and a pickup in front of me started swerving all over the highway and went off the side of the road down a 20 foot embankment head on into trees and a culvert. I was the first one down there...he could've easily died as crushed as the truck was but he climbed out by himself with just a few scratches. Crazy...

Yep, I crashed my first car head on into a wall. Something broke on the steering as I was heading around a bend and I lost control on the wet road (with leaves all over it to make it worse). Went into the opposite lane and skidded back across my lane into the wall on the side of the road

Soooo many other (bad) things could have happened and I wouldnt be here today.
There could have been a car coming down the road in the opposite lane and I would have been in a head on collision. Probably dead.
I could have hit the fence which was just a few meters along, instead of the wall. If I hit that, I would have gone straight through it and down the cliff behind it. Probably dead.
There could have been people walking on the pavement just infront of the wall I hit, they'd be dead.

But oh well, none of that happened, I have a scar on the back of my hand and apart from that everything is/was ok. No need to dwell on things

Never have been in a bad one driving myself, but I was in the car when my buddy crashed in to a parked car on the FIRST day he had his licence after we were out in a clubhouse hitting bongs He asked me to get him a tissue because he was choking on a licorice but he had that stupid 2 chamber armrest and I couldn't unlatch the right one. He tried to do it himself and crashed.

The time I did there was a power out and I was in a line-up for gas. The guy in front of me ran out of gas so I got out to help him push but didn't put my truck in park. I almost crushed him between the cars but he jumped out of the way first It was just a scratch

Put a car over a guardrail and into a tree after hitting a patch of ice once, had the car winched off the rail and drove it home, concussion and all.

Got hit head on in a friend's car, we were alright, just bruised up, totaled out the other kid's car though.

I took out a telephone pole once doing around 45 mph. Not fun. Broke the pole with the transformer dangling over my car. people that lost power to their house all came outside to see what happened. Was actually fine but my heart rate was 160 BPM cause it scared the s#!t outta me, but they convinced me to get checked out at the hospital.

The hospital wouldnt let me leave because they said my heart rate was erratic and couldnt figure out why. I told them every time I think about, "how ami getting to work?" or " I just totaled my car." The heart monitor would go crazy. They wouldnt believe me. Eventually let me go 2 days later after I calmed down and they couldnt find anything wrong with me. Ive plowed a few cars to be honest. Think I smashed up 3 . This one being the scariest/worst.

1. do not accept a check from the insurance adjuster
2. make sure you get compensation for reduced resale value from the other party's insurance company

I've never been in one but my dad was in ahead on and walked away from it fine (old lady drove across the lane), my dad got into a minor accident the same week my mom got into a mild train accident (both of them uninjured). Nothing really happened but just odd I thought

I've had a few close calls, some that were my fault and some that were not. But never actually been in one fortunately.

I once backed into a friends car though once. No damage was done other than scuffing my bumper a bit.

Never been in a serious one, have seen some pretty nasty ones though. In my country young men have spend a year in social service/army and I worked for the red cross.
One was a ~50 year old woman that collided frontally with a truck. She was dead almost imedially, having her thorax completely crushed and having a few open head wounds. Wasn't very nice to look at. There wasn't much we could do though since there was no way we could get her out of the car because she was basically stuck between the steering wheel and her seat.

Having a car is a great thing to me and I'm a big car fanatic...but I wish public transportation in rural areas in the US was better at times. Saving gas on my 40 mile round trip to work everyday and taking a train or something to avoid fog/ice/flooding/etc on the road sounds really nice sometimes.

My listening to Dissection - Storm of the Lights Bane generally results in bad things traffic-wise.

I've driven after a couple of beers plenty of times, made sure to keep the yellow paint in line with my side mirror, sorta-kinda...

No problems there.

Dissection SOLB? Total driving disaster for me. Shouldn't do it.

I'd be dead twice if it wasn't for seatbelts. Or at the very least a really nasty concussion/neck injury.
