I was recently at a used guitar store and there was a large inventory of used JCM 2000 series amps. My friend remarked that the JCM 2000 series did not sound very good and that was the reason the inventory was so large. I have never owned a Marshall but often considered a purchase.

Appreciate any opinions on this series both good and bad as a used one may be in my range.

Let me clarify my quick message above in that I do not recall that he said they did not sound very good, but he was certainly negative with regard to them. There are however so many in the store I could probably cut a deal. Curious.

Well that depends if they were TSLs or DSLs. The TSLs are not very well regarded as they don't sound all that great. The DSLs are quite nice amps however, so your friend is either confused/misinformed.

Your friend is full of shit. TSL's are rubbish but DSL's are great amps. Well, the ones made after 2003 are. And the earlier ones sound the same, they just overheated because of an under rated rectifier.
Gary Moore used JCM2000 DSL100's live and he had the best tone ever.

Thanks. How bout the 50 verses 100? Any big differences there besides volume? Is the tone still there in the 50?
#7
Yeah. Same preamp. They just have two less power tubes.

I am actually going to buy a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 in a couple of days and I was wondering what sort of cab would I be requiring for the same? A 2X12 should be more than enough for me.

I might even be interested in a single speaker cab. I'm considering this amp head with a small cab given my tremoverb combo is so heavy.

Nice, pretty much all of my influences there.

I'd say something with a GT-75 in it. Nice and creamy, but also smooth.

Someone will suggest something else though.

Gary Moore is expensive, he used EVM-12L's.

I'd say something like a Marshall 1936.

I have an Orange PPC2x12 style cab with G12h30's and it sounds great. I also have a 4x12 loaded with Eminence V12's and it also sounds good
And I have used Eminence GB128 with it and had good results
