I might be trading a Peavey JSX for a Mini Mesa Rectifier.
What's the sound like for the mini rectifier?
Should I trade?

No way we can answer that just based on what you provided.

The people that I've seen talk about the Mini Recto is that it is awesome. Those people are mostly on Rig Talk and GAB. We would need a little more info but even with that info this type of situation is really up to you.

Well that depends... you could be playing in a Joe Satriani tribute band for all we know.

Sorry :/ forgot to add the extra stuff
I probably wont really need it for super downtuned stuff.
Home is probably where it would be used most of the time. recording/playing around
Tone something like Trivium (Shogun and after), Alter Bridge (Tremonti).
Im not looking for those exact tones, but something like them as a guide.

That's a hard one.

Is there any way you can try the Mini Rec?

If your at home mostly, the trade isn't that bad.
If you play live a lot I'd keep the JSX. The JSX has a lot of recto quality's to its sound.

Well if you want Trivium, then JSX is better
I think Alter Bridge use Mesa, so Rec is better for that.

JSX is more versatile though, so I'd say stay with that, unless you're mostly going to be using a tone similar to Alter Bridge.
