Im going to order a whole new set of tubes for my valveking 112. I have In my cart JJ 6l6gc's jjecc83s 12ax7 tungsol new production 12ax7 and a JJ ecc803. Most valvekings come with ehx pre amp tubes but mine came with jj's that I love very dearly. Some people say JJ's are dark and muddy and tung sols are bright and trebly. But I don't have much mud now should I run all JJ or will the tung Sol provide a good balance?
Try both in V1, no harm in ordering a mix. If you don't like the tung-sol you can put it in one of the other positions where it matters a lot less.
I like a Tung-Sol 12AX7 in V1. You might want to put a TS in V3 as well. I found they clear up the amp quite nicely, although you're not perceiving muddiness. V2 I use a Mullard.
Don't put ECC803's in a combo
Cath, why not?
They're prone to microphonics.
Aren't those the same as a 12at7? I have one in my Electar and it seems like it makes it less noisy. I guess I've been...lucky (lol)
No, they have a gain of about 95. Much closer to a 12AX7. They're basically a low noise 12AX7. Great in heads, normally unusable in a combo.
Oh well too late already ordered those its all good. We'll see how it turns out. Pretty sure it has one 803 and two 83's in already
You can get lucky. If it has a hard enough vacuum, you'll be fine.
