That's pretty sad. I know his stuff is hard but he wrote it so he should be able to play it.

I bought "Train of Thought" the other day. To tell the truth, I was dissapointed by the vocals (though I did find the Iron Maiden sounding vocals at the end of "Endless Sacrifice" good.), lyrics, and tone (of guitar solos). But there were an few things that I found amazing, such as "Stream of Conciousness", IMO the best song on the album, and one of the best I ever heard. I also liked "Endless Sacrifice". But the rest was alright.

Ant suggestions for a better album? (It better be epic, mind-blowing, and most of all, orgasmic.)

I know this has been asked before, but I'll ask it again. What's one of the better DT CDs to first pick up? I've downloaded some songs and I really dig them. So............which one?

to tell you guy the truth, I'm pretty sure they were officially Dream Theater in 88 or 89. Somewhere around there.

When they first formed they were known as Majesty for a long time. Thats where the title for the Ytse Jam comes from. It's their old name backwards
#101
Yeah, I knew they were called Majesty for a little while but they had to change their name because another band had that name.

What are your favorite DT songs?

Mine would be The Dance of Eternity.

On once in a livetime they play enter sandman at the end of peruvian skies, and in an interview petrucci also said that enter sandman is what inspired him to make the song in the first place, how much do dream theater love metallica?! lol, and another thing i love about once in a livetime is when petrucci does the freebird solo in take the time, i think it sounds f**king awesome. DT RULE!

^ Hasn't that question been answered already? It comes up in EVERY single DT thread

I haven't seen Live Scenes From NY, but I recommend 5 Years In A LIVEtime/Images & Words In Tokyo over Budokan. Don't get me wrong, Budokan is great? but 5 Years/Tokyo is more career-encompassing, although it has a major disappointment in that there's no SFAM footage
Budokan is mainly a mix of 6° and ToT, although there are a few shining moments with SFAM and older stuff, I particularly liked them playing Only A Matter Of Time. Instrumedley, although good for impressing noodlers, I thought lacked musical direction of any sort. Also in Budokan there are 2 skips in the tracks Trial of Tears and New Millenium (2 of the best songs on the DVD).

If you can afford it, get both though . Also Budokan is more expensive.
#118
sorry to go off topic, but why did the first keyboardist leave DT?
A shredder in the making........ turned over to jazz.
Mathemagician in the making too.

I think it was because he wanted to pursue his own musical direction. They mention it on 5 Years, that he didn't like the compromising involved in a band setting. He's currently making his own albums, I'm not sure what record label he's on though. I'm guessing Century Media?
#120
Why Century Media? Dream Theater are on Elektra.
