Hello

My band is tuned actually to B standard now, however we think of tuning it down a full step to A. Bass guitarist has set of 130-100-80-55 (something like that)? Would 145 be enough for A0 or go with 160 , wont be too tight?

Bass is esp ltd ex 104

160 A would feel stiff in comparison. 145 A would feel almost identical.

Just buy a 5-string set and toss the smallest string.

Mind telling me what cabinet your bass player has that will reproduce an Ao? That's 27.5 Hz.

A five-string bass is normally tuned (5th string) B0=30.87Hz, (4th string) E1=41.20Hz, A1=55Hz, D2=73.42Hz, G2=98Hz and your bass player already has a set of strings that will handle what you intend.

Yep. For Drop A on my 5 string, a .135 is plenty, though I would step it up a tad if I played in G♯ all the time. For the moment, I'm happy with the .135 until I find that elusive used Dingwall NG2 in Ferrari Red...

Bassist says 130 is too light . Well not drop a, a ADGC :P W standard . He plays through Markbass4 and eden ex 410 500w.

I have a 34" 5 string in A Standard. I use a 150 for the A string. Balanced set from Circle K. I've used a 135 for it and without my Tech 21 engaged, you could definitely hear it was too light.
