I recently bought a Peavey Raptor Plus EXP form the local hock shop. It is the lightest strat-style guitar I've ever encountered at approximately 5lb 3oz fully equipped. According to my music store mate, it was made in Vietman, and the timber was listed as basswood. It's twin was also in the hock shop, and might have been even lighter.

How common are strats as light as this? Might it be a different timber? It is a white wood of some kind. Any other examples? - I like light guitars
