Bernie Sanders, one of only two independents in the senate and a self-described socialist, has just announced his intention to run for president.

Come on guys, this could be like the liberals Ron Paul here. Let's get this guy elected so that Fox News can have a shitstorm. Hillary Clinton sucks anyways.

idec that he's socialist, if Rand Paul doesnt have a chance, he's getting my vote

And if neither have a chance, naturally I will not be voting, as I do not want to be a part of the problem.

Clinton shouldn't even factor in 'best:worst' voting decisions. Only uberdouches like ErikLensherr like her >_>

I like Sanders a lot, but I don't think he has a serious chance at beating Hillary in the primaries. Hopefully I'm wrong!

The matchup of political donors really says a lot, though.

#7
there's no way he'll beat Clinton in the primaries which is why I was kind of hoping he'd run independent so maybe I could throw away my vote for him if not the greens.
#9
I may just write in vote for Sanders regardless if he gets the nomination or not. Hopefully he does what Ron Paul did to Mitt Romney in 2012 and refuse to release his delegates at the democratic convention.
#10
there ain't a chance in hell

i'd vote for him tho

So hopefully he pulls a totally futile move that just makes him look like a sore loser.

The point isn't to beat Hillary in the primaries it's to shift the debate. Just like how we wanted third parties to be allowed into presidential debates despite having no chance to win, this is just to get a different message out there rather than the same bullshit the Repubs and Dems have been feeding for years.

It's the same thing with Ron Paul. He had no chance of winning, but he definitely brought attention to issues that the other parties were ignoring.

^I legit wanted to eat people that were proud of Romney for wanting to """"audit"""" "the Fed".

"self-described socialist"

O what a disgrace if such a despised and base race, which worships demons, should conquer a people which has the faith of omnipotent God and is made glorious with the name of Christ!

Its the same thing with libertarians, no matter what your politics are. People will look for any simpler rationalizations to not vote for one, rather than more important stuff (e.g. not eventually tanking our country)

why would being anti-socialist make you automatically think i'm libertarian? is that the only ideology you can think of that isn't socialist?

my apologies, I thought you were arguing on the socialist side, and being cynical about the public/media/etc.

having a hella socialist candidate against a hella American style "libertarian" would be way more interesting than what we normally get.

I really do hope one day the two big parties split off to form a bunch of smaller parties though. >_>

Dont look into it too much bro. I heard from this news website that she said that she's pro gov't transparency/accountability, and is taking a stand now against all of the bad corporate lobbiers

Remember back when FOX was calling her out for looking really old? That was like 4 years ago, back in the past. It only further strengthens their critiques now, up in the future

It won't be possible for their to be multiple parties without major constitutional reform. If you want multiple parties you would first need to do away with the electoral college, otherwise no one would get a majority of electoral votes and thus congress would be the ones to decide the outcome of every election.

true.

although I'd argue that the electoral college is pretty minor compared to everything else holding back third parties (or potential split-ups of the big parties that will not happen anytme soon). for the specific issue of the presidential elections that is a pretty good point but if it turns into a multi-party system, congress would also become multi-party, and we'd basically end up with a more parliamentary system which would be an upgrade if it wasn't for the fact that other aspects of the constitution would maintain an overly powerful presidential rule without the constraints of a PM. (my ideal system is nothing like this ).

I'm a big Bernie supporter. He describes himself as a democratic socialist, but in reality he's more of a social democrat who supports moving to a Nordic model of heavily regulated capitalism balanced with a welfare state/more efficient redistribution of wealth.

EDIT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EO4Ko-v-q0g

But the original aim of social democracy was to slowly reform capitalism into pure socialism. Perhaps deep down inside Bernie would like it to be a full-blown socialist society with the workers/public owning all means of production. But for now it's simply about balancing the scales of capitalism that have, for the past three and a half decades, tilted in favor of the wealthy in this country.
