An overdrive pedal. The audio of this track or video is kinda shit, but it doesn't seem to be anything special. Typical metal tone.

This video is not specifically for the 6505, but it is a very good general guide to achieving good metal tones

It's spreading haha. I've posted this video at least a dozen times around here.

Also, did you get a head and cab or the combo? The speaker int he combo is terrible and could use replacing, but isn't entirely important. An overdrive would be your first step.

Tubescreamer, MXR 10-Band EQ, noise gate is helpful.

Don't underestimate the green channel, crunch enabled, gain around 6-7, with the tubescreamer.

I also like a 5751 in the phase inverter slot on my 5150.

The funny thing about that video is that the clip the distortion pedal sounds a lot closer to early BMTH than the with the TS.

Sounds more like a 6505 than a 6505+. Tune your guitar down, use EMGs, boost it with a Boss SD-1 or MXR M77. EQ in the loop is always a good thing for dialing in what you want.

I got the head going into a mesa 2x12 with vintage 30s.

Aren't a 6505 and 6505+ plus pretty much the same thing?

I run my 5150II with a Pro Tone Bulb OD pedal, and a Mesa 5 band EQ pedal.

put the pre-gain at 4 or 5, post gain at your desired volume, 6 on treble, 6.5 on mids, and maybe 5 on bass.

on the pedal: volume all the way, tone to taste, and gain all the way down. tweak from there.

that should get you started.

The Plus is smoother and more refined. The 6505 is rawer and more aggressive with more lows and low mids.

they are pretty similar. i wonder with a log of gain and saturation and a TS and a mic if a person could distinctively say THIS is the regular 5150, and be right with no knowledge of which it was and be right.

just to clarify, 5150=6505 5150II=6505+

the EVH (branded fenders) 5153 is TOTALLY different. some times called a 5150III. they also have the 50 watt version. they are different and not associated with Peavey at all. they are EVH owned by fender.
