The odds of this ending intelligently are lower than the odds of Eastwinn ever being happy with society

Okay, so this is stupid even for Rand Paul, so I decided to try and figure out the context.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure this is from ten straight hours of filibustering on Paul's part to try and keep the Patriot Act from being renewed yesterday.

1. When you talk for ten straight hours, you run out of things to say that aren't dumb.
2. As much of a kooky nutball Rand is, I think we can all agree that trying to end the Patriot Act is a pretty groovy thing to do. Still not voting for him, but props for it.

I suppose he is correct. The hippocratic oath specifically states:
"With regard to healing the sick, I will devise and order for them the best diet, according to my judgment and free market principles with no government controll over who I treat and over who pays me for the medicine that I will prescribe my patients instead of the medicine they actually need."

Good god, can't these people give up on their speeches about freedom for 5 minutes and just get on with actually doing something?

It's like everything gets turned into some sort of philosophical debate that has no real outcome, and instead of philosophers, these guys more closely resemble urban foxes in heat. A lot of noise, my sleep ruined and all you can possibly get out of it is the knowledge that some fox just got lucky.

slaves had it easy back then, they didn't have to live in the nightmare world of free healthcare
#22
Definition of Slavery: "a condition of having to work very hard without proper remuneration or appreciation."

Pretty sure health care workers still get paid in free Healthcare systems....works in Australia, England and Canada.....seriously America, get your shit together. One of these days I'd like to tell my children that scenarios like Walter White aren't realistic.......
Come back if you want to

Proper being the operative word. Many slaves in America were paid, and many bought their own freedom with their wages. Their wages were improper though. I venture to guess Senator Paul is less concerned about pay, and more concerned about force. He's clumsily pointing out that socializing medicine transforms hospitals into a public entitlement, limiting the choices of practicing physicians.

Not saying I agree or disagree with him, (his wording is awful regardless) but I think that needed clarification.

slavery was a holocaust, even if you can deflect by saying that "some slaves" were treated "alright" (note: not saying this in response to rossenrot)

related: I once read an article that literally said: "few people realize the true scope of the Nazi regime's reign of terror- healthcare was socialised..." might not be exact wording but yeah gtfo if you think that is comparable to genocide.

As a Dutchie, I don't get what people have against free healthcare.

It's not mandatory, if my arm falls off tomorrow, I can stay at home and have another beer, instead of going to the hospital.

i just think we should get white people to stop crying, full stop. idc about slavery and stuff like that. i just cant be bothered going round the town seeing white people cry as if they have problems. Once they look at the problems blacks have in america, their tears best be shared to them.

"...do you have a right to plumbing, do you have a right to water, do you have a right to food...?"

Well, yeah. There are tons of housing and food programs for the homeless and impoverished. How out of touch is this guy?

I worked as an EMT for a little while. I ended up leaving my job in healthcare because of frustrations with how the insurance structure of my state and the country was.

The simple fact that the limit of your care is based upon your income, and how much of it you pay out to insurance, is straight ****ing disgusting. Free healthcare could be argued under LIFE, liberty, and PURSUIT OF GOD DAMN HAPPINESS if you wanted to throw around slogans rather than statistics. That's in some of our founding paperwork.

The fact that the US is entirely able to cover universal healthcare, yet it doesn't, is pretty much inexcusable to me. I don't think you get you call yourself "the greatest country on earth" when almost all of your families that make under $30k a year haven't taken their kids to the dentists in their entire lives because they can't afford it.

I haven't had my coffee yet and I'm pissed off. Shit, balls.

Yes, this is coming from an ophthalmologist who is not certified.

Well, he is "certified" by the National Board of Ophthalmology. Which he created and is president of and certified himself.

It is not recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties, which works with the American Medical Association to approve such specialty boards.

completely agree. I like to hear your perspectives on this given your experience

and this is before we even get into the fact that his argument basically is "if you expect me to do my job, you are enslaving me." he's comparing that to slavery when there are millions of people worldwide including in the United States who are literally enslaved at this moment via human trafficking. could go into all the healthcare stuff but let's just say oh look what do you know people are still expected to go to work to provide health care it's just in the private sector instead wow. and who gets it depends on class status as you said. at best even "middle class" people are just at the mercy of their employers to provide benefits.

don't worry people expect me to be angsty as shit so if I post more people will excuse you being pissed and see that you have a good point.
