Ed Sheeran seems to be popular. I'm stuck in the 80's and 90's so I haven't heard much of his stuff but what comes on the radio occasionally.

Anything in the charts with even a hint of acoustic guitar gets played constantly at the open mic nights in my area. Songs like the ones you mentioned get old very quickly.

Why are you focusing on new songs? There's a lot of nice old country and bluegrass acoustic stuff you could do. Some nice jazz tunes could sound decent too.

so true..
of course I have old classic songs in my repertory, but I think mixing them with new songs is the key

There are a ton of other john mayer songs you could play, like stop this train. heart of life and say.
Other suggestions:
Little Talks - Of Monsters and Men
Cherry Wine, Like Real People Do or From Eden - Hozier
Riptide - Vance Joy
I Dont Want to Change you - Damien Rice
Stay with me, or anything by Sam Smith
