I recently spent $650 on my first 7-string guitar. It's a musicman7 string john petrucci guitar. The stock strings weren't very good so I ordered some new strings to replace them. I've restrung my 6 string electric guitar plenty of times. However, the stock strings are completely stuck in the head of the guitar. I can't remove them no matter how much pressure I apply! I'm beyond frustrated because I basically have a $650 block of wood that I can't do anything with. I'm frustrated to the point that I'm ready to quit guitar completely after 10 years of off and on playing. Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to restring this thing?

Judging from how much you paid I've looked up some specs:

I assume this is roughly the guitar you own.

If so your guitar has locking tuners, which is why you can't get the old strings out.

I would explain how to change the strings, but I thought these assortment of youtube videos would be of better use to you https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=locking+tuners+changing+strings

Hope this helps

Yup, sounds like locking tuners.

Easy fix. And you'll be back shredding in no time.
