So I am very new to pedals and effects and stuff and I was wondering how to obtain a clean tone even though there is distortion on the amp. I realize that sounds confusing. Without any pedals the gain on the amp is mild so I use a tube screamer to boost it, only issue is when I turn of the tube screamer the amps distortion sounds lousy. Is there any type of pedals that emulate a clean tone? Or am I doing something completely wrong?

Roll off the guitar volume until it cleans up. I do this all the time.
"Your sound is in your hands as much as anything. It's the way you pick, and the way you hold the guitar, more than it is the amp or the guitar you use." -- Stevie Ray Vaughan

"Anybody can play. The note is only 20 percent. The attitude of the motherfucker who plays it is 80 percent." -- Miles Davis
