Hey guys, I posted a thread a bit ago and I mentioned that I was getting a JVM soon, but I was recently introduced to VHT/Fryette, and Ive heard great things about all of there amps, the deliverance in particular, a friend of mine is selling one for 700$ and I was wondering, is it as good as a JVM? is 700$ a good price? and how versatile is it? Ive never seen any good demos of it so im pretty clueless as to what it sounds like, Thanks!

Hey dude, the Deliverance is a mad amplifier. Amazing tone. VHT/Fryette gain is kinda weird in that it's super heavy yet kinda "dry" for lack of a better word. It's really it's own beast. Sound amazing.

That said, these are one channel amps. So it has a little less versatility in that sense, however it is one AWESOME channel. SO if you don't play super clean a heap, I would say go for the deliverance, but if you want a big, flexible Marshall style then the JVM is king. That said, I like the limitations of a 1 channel amplifier (It lets me feel good about buying heaps of pedals haha).

Now, this is a different amp, but Aaron Turner is my touchstone for the Fryette sound:

I'm not certain if the Deliverance will get you into that territory, but it's a fearsome beast in its own right. Also, I have to assume that is cranked, and I'm sure they cover lower gain tones beautifully if that's your thing!
Have fun dude!

I suppose 700 is reasonable since Fryettes/VHTs are going for stupid prices the past few months. I had the Deliverance 120 (KT88s) and is one of the easiest amps to dial. People say it does the '60s Plexi nicely and can do more gain is needed. I haven't played the JVM enough to recommend it.

i have a fryette sig:x and iove it. i think the gain channels are relatively similar in general, but mine is a 3ch. i love it.

i do feel the need to say is that i am VERY underwhelmed with the JVM. if you want something marshally, get a Splawn. they are IMO better at doing 'marshall' than marshall.

The reason I was interested in the JVM was because its the most non marshall amp they make I saw anthrax live and they were using some fryette stuff so I was interested, It looked like a pitbull but im not too sure.

When I hear a JVM I dont think marshall, at least not on the higher gain side of it, but that might just be me, budget is 1500$, st louis, used is fine.

If your friend is selling it you should play it for a while, see if you like it, even borrow it for a day or two if you can. It's a super dry amp but it'll pack a punch because of that, whole shitload of bite.

My friend lives 600 miles away, so hes just gonna ship it to me if I buy it, he was selling it for 1000 but since were friends hes giving me a deal on it, wish he lived closer so I could try it out, but oh well

you have a pretty solid budget for quite a few options. if you want mesa, you could find a MKV and roadeter/road king in budget. splawns are easily to spot in at <$1000, i picked both my promod and my nitro around that. you can find some nice orange amps in budget., i paid around $900 for my MKI 50 watt rockerverb). again you can look into the fryette Sig:X and the pitbulls too. you may be able to land a soldano hotrod or so in that range as well.

iits up to you., there are TONS of options.

honestly i would hate it if you got either amp with at least researching others. but the deal on the deliverance seems pretty nice.

but honestly i hate dealing with buying//selling to friends. somebody usually comes out ahead for somebody and sometimes things get back to down the road if something is wrong. that is just me though.

Ive been looking to get a new amp for a few months now, Ive looked at all of those amps actually lol, I was interested in the VHT because of how unique it is, I like it when people arent able to determine what amp Im using based off of sound.

Yeah, get the vht. It's mad

+ the sig:x is nice for a three channel amp. EXTREMELY versatile, and absolutely nasty.

but on the cheap, that is a pretty good deal on the deliverance if all is well and you fall on that. FFS if you wanted, you could pick up the deliverance and still have some pocket change for another amp (thats what i do).

Indeed. The Fryette like most uniquely-voiced amps is an acquired taste. Based on my experience/preferences, I'd rank them in the following order: UltraLead/CLX (KT88/EL34), Deliverance 120, Sig:X. If you really like the Deliverance, you'll experience it best with the Fatbottoms (Eminence P50s) or Fane F70 speakers.

I found it a bit dry as mentioned, but with the right overdrive you can get a really interesting personal sound.

I quite like dry sounds, Ill just throw either a reverb, delay or a boost in it and see what happens.

$700 seems like a really good deal. I'd take him up on it and do the deal. You can always flip it for a profit and get something else if you like. The JVM is definitely a love/hate amp and I'm on the hate side. Never found any high gain sounds I liked out of it. Good cleans and low gain though. I'd pass for as much as they cost.

I DO have a Splawn Quick Rod and I can highly recommend them. I had a VHT Pittbull U/L at my house for a few weeks and it was ballin'. Tight and dry. I can also recommend the Orange Rockerverb, Mesa Royal Atlantic, Mesa Rectoverb, Marshall DSL/JCM 800, 5153.
