I've been playing guitar for 3 years, but only started taking it seriously about a month ago. I've been trying to play Elliott Smith songs, particularly Angeles, and I can only play it at 50% speed. I've tried to play it fast and I just can't. Can I be certain that I will eventually be able to play it at its full speed, or is finger-picking speed somewhat inherent?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

finger picking is a skill and takes time to really get down. just relax and don't worry that you can't play this at full speed yet. it will come. just practice and make sure your technique is sound.

You gotta practice rolls like 7 hours a day and then you'll be able to pick super fast. I pick 8th notes at 400+ bpm and that's just with three fingers.
There's no such thing; there never was. Where I am going you cannot follow me now.
