Why do headlines feel it is necessary to replace "and" with a comma?

It's silly.

I've always wondered. It does seem kind of strange, obnoxious.

You know what makes me even more mad? "an historic"

screw everyone who says that.

That would mean the h is silent, which it isn't.

Exactly. I heard Wolf Blitzer say it the other day and I found it quite upsetting.

Have you ever noticed how Wolf Blitzer cant finish a sentence without pausing before his last one or, two words?

I like "an historic" but I also like to sound like a pretentious d-bag. I also clearly enunciate the "th" in clothes.

Newspaper articles in general are their own weird style of writing. They tell the same story over and over slowly adding further details. Its kind of annoying to read, but I understand why. They want to get you hooked on a story from two paragraphs on the first page, then flip to 11B to finish it.

I once read a book in which the author used commas instead of "and". I wanted to strangle the bastard. I found it annoying to read, didn't enjoy it.
I have nothing important to say
