Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum and looking for some help.

My son's getting ready to finish college and I wanted to surprise him with some new gear! I honestly don't play myself and I needed some input. I know the best thing to do is to go to a guitar shop, plug in and play... But i'd just embarrass myself :O

First and most importantly my son records at home (nu metal) and plays smaller shows. He currently has an older Marshall 4x12 and an Ibanez RG...

I've been peaking around at Cabinets and per my research i've decided to go with Orange. The Vintage 30's have great reviews and Orange is a solid brand.

I was going to go with the Orange 2x12 closed back speaker cabinet w/ the v-30s.. It comes in at an awesome price and has great reviews. As far as volume goes I don't see that being an issue as most of his gigs are mic'd into a PA.

My concern is tonality. People online swear the 2x12 vs 4x12 sounds different. But is that difference for better or worse? Is it a "big" difference?

There's a fair price gap between the 2x12 and the 4x12... At first i figured "same sound?" Just less volume... But Still more then enough volume to go around! But as I continue to research it seems there's a lot more to it.

After peaking around some more I found a Marshall JCM 1960B

This cabinet has the Celestion G12T-75 speakers.

Again the internet is divided between these guys and the 30's. The sound comparisons throw me off completely. One video one speaker sounds amazing the next it's flat.

I could use some help!! Plz!

For an amp I was going to go with the Solid State Orange Crush 120H.

And finally the guitar. He's a big fan of Slipknot so I was thinking

Does anyone have any experience with this guitar or it's earlier models? The few demos I saw it sounded awesome! The pickups have stellar reviews... I was just hoping someone might have some practical experience with this instrument.

Thank you agian,
