Destructive and oppressive sanctions against the free market brought on by public protest for the sake of social security and equality make me moist.

I am moist.

I can understand taxi drivers being a little bit miffed but they seem to have overreacted

Also the french government seem to have overreacted by deeming the app illegal. France sucks anyway and this one incident totally proves it, you can disregard any decent french stuff because of it.
I have nothing important to say

Title is perfect.

This could happen in a tiny part of Europe in WhoGivesA****sVille, and it'd be fun to insult all of Europe. Because let's be honest, when something shitty happens in WhoGivesA****sVille, USA.....it's common practice and fair game it seems to say Lol America.

Uber/Lyft have even had a hard time being legal in some cities due to taxi lobbies. Of course it is so much better. I used Lyft last night.

They're French, they object to having even one job.

Because that would entail having to be honest and not running the meter by taking the non-direct route, be scrutinized to easily accessible public reviews, have a personable demeanor, and not be a filthy shady POS. In other words, they'd actually have to work. That's why they're so angry.

I hate uber and I refuse to take it unless i'm stranded somewhere in adverse conditions. I've taken it in 3 different cities multiple times and all of them sucked more than if I had taken a regular cab. The last time I took it I was genuinely scared for my safety. So no thx

Bans on Uber are ridiculous. Police should have arrested all those cabbies and put them in jail for disrupting public order. Politicians bow down to cabbies and farmers waaay too easily.

Also you can sync it up with Spotify so they couldn't play their weird cabbie music.

I don't know how they do it in Europe, but in NY in order to drive a taxi, you have to have a medallion, which costs around 700,000 dollars...

IDK about you guys, but if I invested 700,000 into a permit to drive a taxi, I'd be PISSED if some kid in his dad's kia started taking business from me.

It's not 700.000 dollars, but this is generally the problem yeah. But we cannot hold unto these outdated ideas. Let the free market work. Maybe the government can give some compensation, but we really need to get rid of these medallions.

Was one of the big issues in greece where you also needed a similar thing to drive a truck. In this day and age that's ridiculous and a lack of truck drivers drives up the price of transport.

The only reasons medallions cost so much/are hard to get is because cab drivers themselves wanna strictly limit the number of people allowed to drive a taxi. So there's less competition. This all comes down to them being greedy/lazy/bringing this shit on themselves.

Someone explain to me why a yellow Toyota Camry with the word "taxi" on it costs nearly $1 million.

it's closer to $300,000 but yeah that is pretty ridiculous. Uber's going to have to rethink their business structure if they don't want to get outright removed.

Uber is going to have to lobby before they enter a region, not after. Just go to the EU and get them to agree with new regulations for this kind of shit.

Why don't the cab drivers take second jobs as Uber drivers?

because they have to get special insurances, licences, pay taxes etc. and can't because of those higher costs offer their services at the price of other Uber drivers?

plus Uber is actually illegal in France and they might lose their taxi-licence

The actual situation is quite bad (pretty sure assurance won't cover costs if you have an crash in a uber "taxi") and I see it as an opportunity to better the existing situation: less regulation for taxi driver and creation of special assurances to cover uber-drivers + collecting taxes over uber (since it's all black market "jobs" right now)

oh man can't believe thing happened. Although it probably won't have serious long term affects, thing is showing itself to be a controversial topic. It's time for the EU to meet and discuss thing.
