A week before the wedding, her mother announced that it was off. No explanation was given.

She's 24, hardly a teenager any more and it's not like she's been cranking out kids annually.

I don't even see this as news.

There's a local town called Bristol. It has an amusement park and also it'swhere Aaron Hernandez is from.

Naming after a place in the same area seems even worse.

Why?

Perhaps her parents thought it a beautiful area (it is) or maybe it's where she was conceived.

It's damnably shallow to demean someone's name.

Part of me agrees with you, part of me wonders how well my life and family would fare in the media. (Not really, we'd be crucified. I've got more than a few very colorful branches on the family tree...)

And in that knowledge, surely you wouldn't give your kids names that invite mockery.

That's funny. I would think that you would be one to cut the branches of color from your family tree.

True.

It's the knowing in advance if you or your kids are going to be famous that's the hard part...

Well, Sarah Palin has been an elected official since 1992, so she'd obviously planned on a career in politics, which can't be anything except in the public eye.

Mind you, that's really pre-internet(by 20 years for Alaska), so maybe she figured the papers would go easy on her.

I know what you're saying, but there are a LOT of elected officials that no one outside of their constituents have ever heard of.

And we both know her national exposure was a fluke.

Sure, Gov. of Alaska. Who cares. Can you name without searching the current AK Gov?

I have to be honest, I don't find "Bristol" that unusual.

If she had named her Chastity....different story...
