The bass world lost a true giant the other day. Chris Squire - the famous Prog Rock bassist with Yes and XYZ, as well as as a solo artist - passed away on Saturday, 27 June 2015, at the age of 67.

Chris was a bassist of incredible talent, and he set the standard for Prog Rock bass playing. He influenced all of the great Prog Rock players; not least of all Geddy Lee of Rush and John Myung of Dream Theater. I have spent countless hours trying to replicate his work over the years, and I never cease to be amazed at what he could do.

R.I.P. Chris Squire, and thanks for the music that you gave us!

I remember getting Yessongs in Middle School and just listening to it over and over again. Even at that age, I was blown away by Chris Squire's bass lines.

Its a big loss. Chris, John Wetton and Tony Levin were the triune for me in the progressive rock arena. Now, there's only two..

Yes, and just six weeks ago, John Wetton had a two-pound cancerous tumor removed. This year is going to go down in bass history as a very bad one.

I have never been asked to play a Yes tune.

Had Yes been as popular as Rush, I would have loved it, and would have loved learning all of Chris' work.

For me, the era of Entwistle, Squire, and Lee is the foundation of the Modern Bass tone and Bassist.

Levin was mentioned above, but I do not include him in the Envelope Pushing era, but I love all of his work.

Because Yes was never in the realm of compositions I was asked to perform, Chris will, for me, remain the Bassists Bassist. The one I listen to without my instrument.

He did Amazing Grace before Victor did.

He played with Distortions, Phasers, Flangers as I have been naturally drawn to from the beginning.

For me, his work is Mythical.
