Yeah genres are a little vague. Name some bands with the sound you're looking for.
Or alternatively, use the brands the bands with the sound you're looking for use.

The one that feels comfortable in your hands, and, ideally, the one that you think looks good. Most of that "grunge" tone comes from pedals and a decent amp.
Buying a Fender Mustang won't make you sound like Kurt Cobain.

It'll help

The most important thing is to get a guitar that you like, but yeah Fenders will help to sound like Fender players and Gibbys will help to sound like Gibson players. The decision should be your own, but for a starting point as far as finding instruments is concerned, just look at what your favourite guitarists play.

A lot of grunge and alternative rock in the 90s was kind of epitomised by Fender offsets and Mustangs, if that's your hype. On the other hand, I'm sure there are plenty that played Gibsons, or Gretsches, or MIJ knockoffs, etc. etc.

I feel like getting Boss DS-1 Distortion or Danelectro D-Q Fab Distortion pedal for my Epip LP Custom Pro to play the sounds of alternative rock and grunge.

Just curious, still.

Also look at the old DOD Grunge pedal. These run $15-$25 used and will do the grunge sound just fine. It actually gets pretty heavy and will do distortion way past Soundgarden if you want it to.

Cobain used the DS-1 a lot back then.

And a Tech21 SansAmp in the last period, I really like mine. Never tried the reissue, though.

Don't buy the FAB. Most full size Danelectro pedals are good, the FAB series are trash, though.
The DS-1 is good, and you can find used ones pretty cheap. What amp are you plugging into?

A guitar.

In other words, as long as you have just the right amount of distortion (not too much, not too little), you'll be fine with whatever guitar.

I would recommend you get a better amp if distortion on your current amp is an issue. Seriously, amp > pedals.

If that's not an option, well...Boss pedals tend to crap out after a few years. If you're fine with that, cool. Can't speak to Danelectro pedals.

An $100 26W Peavy solo combo amp

I feel like not want to use that amp anymore and I don't even know what cheap, better amp I can get now.

cheap

That word will get you in trouble. If you look only at other cheap amps, you might hear a change in your tone, but you won't hear an improvement. It is extremely difficult to upgrade your sound without spending a little bit more than you did before.

Shop around. Save money. Try to figure out what kind of tone you want, and what amps deliver it. Then sell your Peavey and buy the new amp.
