I have a cheap guitar that sounds absolutely great made by Archer. I sanded the nasty plasticky glossy finish off the top and neck. Sounds even better to my ears now and feels a whole lot better. I want a dull finish on it to protect the top.

What product do I need and can I get it at a hardware store?
Is one coat enough?

Thanks

minwax wipe on poly satin. the wipe on poly satin is basically the diy version of the stuff you just sanded off and multiple coats are needed. sand between each and build up to suit.

if you use an oil finish like watco danish oil, you will need to seal first with shellac. oil finishes will saturate the top and ruin the guitar some more.
