For $1000 what, in your opinion, is the best Guitar and Amp someone can get. Doesnt matter what style, or type. And assume have access to local guitar shops, craigslist, etc...
This is just in your opinion, if you had $1000 to get a amp and guitar assuming you had nothing, how would you allocate the funds.

Depends on what they want to play, where they live, and if they're willing to buy used gear.

As noted elsewhere:

Budget? - What is practical for you and what is your limit?

Genres? - What style do you play mostly, fav guitarists, do you need cleans, etc?

New or Used? - Lots of great amps out there used, especially in a down economy.

Home or Gig? - Also important. Maybe you do both. Jamming with a drummer can be considered 'gigging' but you won't have a PA etc.

Closest City? - We aren't here to stalk you but we need to know where you are in the world roughly and we can help further if we know what city you are in (ie craigslist, local shops, Guitar Center used section, etc)

Current Gear? - Also good for us to know.

Help us help you.

The problem is, it DOES matter. There is NO "one perfect setup" that's all things to all people.

He did say 'in your opinion'... Personally I'd buy a half-decent Tele and try and find a second-hand Fender Deluxe Reverb (or a Hot Rod, failing that) hopefully with enough money left over for a Big Muff...

Fine, HSS Mexi-Strat and an AC15

Or Epi Les Paul and Peavey Triumph

Or Michael Kelly Patriot Decree and Marshall DSL40

Or Godin Redline and Crate Palomino V32

Etc etc etc.

There really are too many combinations to list that would all be great, so help us narrow it down a bit.

You have no clue

The AC15 is $639 new www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/vox-custom-ac15c1-15w-1x12-tube-guitar-combo-amp/423619
the AC30 is $999

The DSL40 is $699, but used it is much cheaper

Used is where you will get the best bang for your buck, that $1800 new amp only costs $900 or less used

Already did this:

USA Fender Strat used $450, Mesa F-30 used $550. Done

A few years later I went with a USA Tele for $600 but still in the ballpark. So many guitars, so little time.

Yep dopey thread.

That would be a tough situation for me really. The choice would be either a very good guitar (Jackson Pro) and a budget solid state amp (Peavey Vypyr 1) or alternatively a nice tube amp (Peavey 6505 112 or Carvin V3MC) and a cheapo guitar.

then he still needs a mic and harmonica.

or a guitar.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

Well, I guess if he found one with useable modules already in it, he could use the $400 on a guitar.
