I bought this guitar almost a year ago used. The previous owner poorly painted over the dot inlays on the fretboard. I'm now realizing that I'd rather have the original inlays showing. Any ideas on how to remove this paint without damaging the neck? It's a rosewood fretboard.
Do you know if they're plastic inlays or real MOP/Abalone inlays?
Mask around them, scrape off what you can with a razor blade and get more with Scotch Brite pads. They’ll get scraped but can’t look worse than they do now. You could probably sand lightly with high-grit sandpaper and then buff with a Dremel and buffing wheels.
Take a Stanley blade, wrap soem masking tape around the ends and use the exposed bit in the middle to scrape. Should get a fair amount off, then try something like scotchbrite to carefully remove the rest.
