i saw a squier for 165 dollars (used)
it has the serial number cxs 031019967
i read on wiki about it it said "Some Squiers that are sold only in the Chinese and Asian markets are made by Axl in China. These guitars usually have the serial number starting with CXS; with the 'X' standing for 'Axl'."
does anyone recommend it?

What model? The only useful information for this would be the model and the condition and you've given neither. A picture would help if you can't provide that yourself.

how do i identify the model?

Well can you provide a picture? There's all sorts of models and most of them don't have it written on the headstock, but they're mostly pretty recognisable if you know what you're looking for.

Someone with more experience might be able to weigh in on this but I think that's an SE Strat, unless it's an older model. What country are you in? Obviously that can have quite a big impact on what's a good price.

Where are you vargon?

It's really odd that you provide the ULTIMATE identifier for a guitar, the serial number, but don't know the model! Perhaps you should contact the maker of the guitar online and ask?

You can't tell if the price is good if you don't know the model.

If it's an SE then it's not worth the effort, they're mediocre. However, if you get in contact with Fender they should be able to confirm the model from the serial:

Disclaimer in that I do not know about this specific model, but Just from the pics it looks like your standard entry-level strat. If you are starting out on guitar, that would be a decent way to get started. If you have the chance to check it out yourself, pay attention to the neck. Are the frets worn down or rusty? When you look at the neck from both the side when playing, and also looking down from the headstock, do you see a bend larger than a few millimeters? Next, check how the strings connect to the guitar through the nut and bridge. Are those areas in good condition? And finally, plug it in and see how it sounds. Turn the knobs and flick the selector switch. Any sudden strange sounds or crackling? If these points are all good and the price seems reasonable compared to your other options, I say go ahead and get it

That's about a mid-level Squier. If Jordan's much like other countries in the Middle East I've been to, it might be difficult to get any other models. One smaller (wealthy) country I've been to out there had only new guitar store in the whole country--it was a "Fender" store, and all it had was 3 Squiers just like that one. The record store in the big mall had 1 Yamaha guitar and 1 Yamaha bass. All the other music stores in the country (all 4) had generic Stratocasters of much lower quality.

It's either an SE or an Affinity, and there's not much difference between those models. It's better than a Bullet, but not as good as a Standard or their "high-end" models like the Vintage Moderns, etc.

Either way, the pickups will sound pretty bad compared to a "real" Fender guitar, the electronics are junk, and the setup most likely horrible unless it's been to a good guitar tech, but those are hard to find in the Middle East. You can replace pickups and electronics if you have access to good parts, and you know how to solder. You can learn how to do a good setup but you'll need some tools that might be hard to get in Jordan.

I spent $400 making a guitar like this into my favorite guitar (for a long time; now it's my second favorite) but I had easy access to everything I needed and I've been soldering for decades. It was horrible until I got a good setup on it (the tech had to shim the neck).

You might have a hard time keeping it in tune if you use the tremolo bar because you probably can't get graphite grease for the nut and saddles. Also, the 6-screw bridge isn't very stable compared to the Made in American Fender 2-point bridges. You can always block it or tighten the claw all the way to help out.

On the positive side, these Squiers usually have great necks and frets, often better than Made in Mexico Stratocasters--if the guitar hasn't been exposed to too much heat and low-humidity. If so, then the fretboard can shrink and the frets will stick out the side. I'd get a strat with a maple neck if I lived in Jordan.

This will be one of the best Made in China Stratocasters you can get anywhere near the price. The Fender Modern Players will be better, but they cost more than twice as much, and likely are hard to find in Jordan, if available there at all.

Good luck, and good luck finding a suitable amp, too.

Looks like an SE model. Better than a Bullet or Affinity, not quite as good as a Standard. Has a full width body(or closer to) , unlike the Bullet or Affinity, so parts upgrades are somewhat easier.

It's funny for you can buy Squier's in Wholesale clubs, toys stores, as well as music stores. Any Squier I have touched to me personally I think sounds like crap. That is my personal opinion and not going to argue about it.

However, I seen an interview with professional musicians that can affored the $3000 guitars and this guitar player says he plays a Squier. So IMHO I don't know what to think. However, I also know with that much distortion does it really matter?

Not arguing, but have you ever tried the Vintage Modified or Classic Vibe ranges? Imo those are the ones that are good guitars without the caveat "for the price".
