Hi everyone, this forum in particular has been very useful for me and I've discovered the talent of people who have been helping me develop my own songwriting. So I thought I may as well share this slight predicament I face.

So, I have written a sequence of notes to form a bassline for a rough tune that I have in my head but can't pin down. The trouble is, I do not have a bass guitar and do not know anyone who plays bass. So I threw this riff thing together on my acoustic guitar (I wanted a more rock feel but I don't have an electric guitar either) and decided it would make a decent bass line. So firstly, I'd be interested in some critique. Secondly, would it be possible to translate this onto a bass guitar somehow? So it's...bassier and I can play over it. Or is it theoretically impossible to do? What would be great is if someone with a bass guitar could try playing it or at least give me some tips for writing bass lines. And of course, I'm happy to comment on any of your stuff if you take the time to advise me, thanks

I could record the bassline for you on my bass. Another option is to get a pitch shifter if you want to sound like a bass.

Hey man... could you post a tab for the notes you play in your sequence?

Well it's not played on bass so I can't put it on a bass tab but I could put it on a regular guitar tab if that helps.

Capo on the 6th fret

e|-----------------------------------------------------------------------
B|-----------------------------------------------------------------------
G|-----------------------------------------------------------------------
D|-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A|-3h5-0------------------3h5-0--------3----------------------------
E|----------3h5-1------------------3h5-------------------------------

I'm new to tabs, but I think that that is the correct riff.

I posted a link to me playing it on my guitar in the original post. I was thinking slightly faster than that for the tempo.

Edit: the original post version is in a different key as the capo is on the 4th fret, but I'[m not too picky about which you use.

Thanks!

Okay here it is.......... drumroll

I call it the "Serotonite Easy Rock bass line 120 bpm loop" and you can DL it from my soundcloud.

Hope this is something you like, i made a 1.40 minute loop for you so you can jam over it... like to hear the result -->

Thanks! That's what I was going for. Just didn't really have the facilities so you've been a huge help

I'll try jamming and see if anything comes of it and I'll put it up.

There we go, apologies for the timing errors and poor quality, I'm not very good with audio editing software

needs some work my man

take your time... Rome wasn't built in one day

keep on rockin' !!

What kind of work?

Obviously I need cleaner recording and editing. What else is off?

Sounds like the biggest issue is playing in time with the bass track. The chord progression sounds pretty good to me, but it's hard to judge it accurately until the timing/rhythm is locked down
Hey, fifteen year old me, that's not how you spell "Genesis"
