I just got a squire for free and want upgrade the pups.
I want a classic bluesy tone and drop in replacements that will not require any mods.
Budget of $100.
Thanks.

Current amp?
You looking to upgrade all 3?
Do you want a true single coil sound or a single coil sized humbucker?
Charvel So-Cal (SH6TB/N, killswitch), Jackson RR5FR (TB6/Jazz, Drop C). Joyo pxl pro.
Loop1=Crybaby from hell, Boss PS-5, Seymour Duncan 805 or Green Rhino, EQD Hoof or Earthbound Audio Super Collider. Loop 1 into ISP Decimator II.
Loop 2 (FX loop)-Line6 M9, TC Spark Mini. Loop 2 into mxr 10band. All into a Peavey Triple XXX 212, Ibanez IL15.

Duncan SSL1, Fender Fat 50s or 57/62, 69, etc etc are all quite good and can be found for under $100 used. They are all fairly similar, I'd just grab whatever's available to you and enjoy.

The stock squier pots are pretty bad, I'd think about spending $10 to replace those as well. It will go a long way towards letting those pickups shine, and you might as well replace them while you're installing the new pickups. CTS, Bournes, or full-sized Alpha pots would be good upgrades.

I assume all three. You can get those sets for under 100 used if you're patient and in the US.

i actually had one of the pots go on my squier (first guitar) a long time ago.

i would buy bournes pots, and maybe pick up some orange drop caps while you are at it.

if you are doing that may as well go for a switchraft switch and jack too.

When I was scouring ebay a little while ago for a similar thread I saw a good two or three people selling the '57/'62 set ostensibly new for under $100, such as these:

Just for what it's worth, as it were.
