Hi,

I'm breaking a heck of a lot of strings on one of my guitars (musicman, john petrucci, strung with 9s to 46s). I'm looking for recommendations on the strongest strings around at that gauge.

N.B. - had the guitar looked at by a tech, not much can be done, something wrong with the trem system

Cheers

John

Maybe you should drop MM an email about it?

Something wrong with the trem, but not much can be done about it? Why not?

GHS and EB sell reinforced strings, btw.

Are they only breaking when you use the trem? And if so, how hard are you pulling up?

Any "tech" that tells you nothing can be done about it is not a very good tech IMO. Strings break because they get nicked by sharp edges somewhere. Anything sharp can be made "not sharp".
Moving on.....

OK - pretty unanimous response there. The strings are all breaking at the saddle. Will go back to musicman to see what they have to say, and try a different tech. Thanks guys.
