Hey all, I've had a Marshall Lead 12 5005laying around since it was purchased new. I've decided I'm going to restore it a bit, as it's in great physical condition. It's getting new pots as well as electrolytic capacitors (I've found pots on amazon, original Marshall pots too, so that's good, however, I'd like recommendations on caps. I don't want cheap out on those)

Currently, since I'm cleaning up the cab itself, I've gutted it, and I have the amp itself rigged up to the Eminence GB128 in my JCM2000 DSL401. It sounds infinity better with this speaker, and I'd love to stick one in the 5005, but it takes a 10" speaker.

Are there any speakers that perform similarly to the gb128, but are 10" instead? The original speaker is 25w, so I think it's best to keep with something 25w or above.

I'm not looking to spend a ton of money on a speaker, so preferably something under $70USD (hell, I got the gb128 for $60 shipped brand new)

Thanks!

For the caps, it's hard to go wrong with F&T.

As for the speaker, I'd probably go for a WGS Retro 10. That's a clone of the Celestion V30 in a 10" format.

i use F&T, i have never had a problem.

also, i wouldn't bother with marshall pots. i would look at bournes.

i would trust cath's rec on the speaker.

GB128 is more or less like a bit more modern-sounding greenback (also a little bit more "Eminence"-sounding, if that makes sense).

I'm guessing to get into the ballpark you'd want a greenback-influenced 10" speaker. Celestion does one, as does WGS (10" green beret) and Tayden (10" true brit). I haven't tried any of them so I dunno how close they get.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

V30s and the likes are a little too scooped for my tastes

I'll definitely check out the 10" green beret and true brit

I use bourns in all my guitars, love them, but I've had trouble finding the right values from ANY company besides marshall, besides, I've got all the ones I need in my cart on amazon, totals to about $15 shipped, direct from AmplifiedParts (I've bought from them in the past, never once had an issue with anything they've sent me) Most sites are offering the pots as a set, and are asking more like $30 for them (same oem ones) which is absolutely ridiculous.

wait what now? V30s are about as middy as speakers get.

i was thinking that too.

half of the reason i use K85's is because the mids are too prominent on V30's for some amps.
