What's a guitar?

No real changes, the basics have been established for a very long time and 20 years more won't change that.

On the contrary the guitar will be materially similar in 20 years to what it is today.

The macbook pro will be a fading memory and your children will laugh at you for ever having used such antiquated technology...

People like the 'idea' of playing guitar. There will always be an interest in it IMO.

We have video games that simulate racing and sports without the risk. Why do people still play the real thing then? Because nothing really replaces the feeling of actually doing it and experiencing it.

So guitar is going nowhere IMO.

That's still playing at racing, though.

Also pretty sad IMO.

That really doesn't alter my point at all considering my point was that even if we have simulations, people still want to do the real thing.

Sure racing games inspire some people to hit up track days and stuff, but really it's not the same as the real thing. This is coming from somebody that has been playing racing sims for a long ass time too. Got a whole Fanatec setup and everything. It's just not the same. Even compared to daily driving etc...

Yeah, and gigging at bars every weekend is basically the same shit, what's your point? People do it for fun, not cause you think its legit or not. They're still doing the same kind of things, even if its just at the amateur level.

People can do whatever the **** they like. I'm allowed to think they're sad bastards, and I can even say it.

If you do a race day, you're a wank.

See, I knew we had more things we agree on!!

I've raced on land, air and water, using internal combustion, wind or muscle power, and I've enjoyed every minute of it.

But I'm an asshole, so I'm inclined to agree with you...

The optimistic outlook:

Guitar will become even more hated than it is now as even yet more people are exposed to the horrible noise made by guitar users.

This will lead to,.. gradually lead to a new revival of only musicians or people who want to be musicians owning and playing electric guitars.

There will still be people who like to do it for a hobby , but they will stay at home where they belong.

Open mic nights will be a thing of past. Musicians will be hired to provide music , nothing else.

Synthetic noises will become more prominent, but hiring a guitarist to come record a part is infinitely faster and more realistic than dicking with a soundbank.

Also people will tune up back to normal, because guitar muddying up the low end is ******ed production wise. They'll raise bass post production or digitally drop it.
