For years I have wanted the YM strat, but I just don't have a budget for it. I could save up maybe 900 or $1000 USD but above that is not justifiable for me at this point. I live in Japan and I know there were Japanese fenders that were scalloped but I can't find them now for a reasonable price.

Is there anywhere I can look where I can get a nice guitar with fully scalloped frets for less than 1000 USD? I'm not confident enough to make one myself.

By the way before you respond I have played some JEMS with the top end scalloped, and for about two minutes at a guitar center in the US I tried out the Yngwie, which was very cool in my opinion. I have a cheapo Les Paul for rhythm and an Ibanez prestige for overall lead, so I think having an abnormal guitar next is OK. As for pickups single coil is fine but humbuckers are ok too. I usually switch out pups anyways so I can work with either slot type. Just want to see what's out there for now.

Thanks!

I know locally I can get a fretboard scalped for about $10 a fret you could look into that option. The only other company I know is warmoth has an option when you buy there necks.

short answer is no. scallopped boards really aren't stock on many guitars and certainly not on cheaper axes. you can look for a ritchie blackmore sig strat which is a bit cheaper than an yngwie.

are you sure you want scalloped frets? it's not "abnormal" just different. they require a very light touch when playing.

Thanks rockerbrony. I think closer to a strat or superstrat is best for me though.

I found some cheap scalloped necks (neck only) for about $100..but made in China. I'd pay 200-400 for a new strat neck itself if I knew it was made well.

Would a new strat neck be pretty much just a pop in, or would I have to adjust a lot?

Also if you have any idea where would be a good place to buy one...

How about like this? With 21 frets does that mean it was a mexi strat and they scalloped it? I would of course want a neck that is good quality

that's an All Parts neck which is licensed from Fender to use their headstock shape. that neck is the same style as a 70s strat which is what yngwie uses. the qualty should be pretty good. check Warmouth as well.

have you ever played on a scalloped neck? i think it would suck on the low frets. from the 12th up or 15th up is one thing, but a full neck? i don't think i would like that. thats just my $.02
