I hope this is the correct subforum...

I'm looking for a good budget external sound card. However, I've never really got into this stuff before, but I'll be recording soon, so I figured I'd need a sound card. Unfortunately, my budget is quite sad at the moment. I can afford $200 tops.

By the way, I'm using a laptop, with i5 processor and 8 GB memory. Will it suffice? Sorry if the question is stupid, I have no experience in this field.

EDIT: A guy who owns a music store suggested to me Art USB Dual Pre. Any ideas?

Look into USB Presonus, Focusrite, Mackie, Behringer, Roland. Plenty of options. I like the Presonus Audiobox and Mackie Onyx Blackjack for low budget. Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 will probably be a good idea at the top of your price range.

You may go into the recording section, and then find the introduction to recording sticky.

Clue: amplifiers amplify so don't turn it on if you need quiet.

You might want to make sure your audio interface has midi as well in case you want to go beyond just recording your guitar.

i like my focusrite scarlett 2i4. i run it with reaper on a much slower computer than yours with no problems.
