Honestly, do any of you feel prejudice towards others? Other ethnic groups? LGBT community? People of different religion?

I'm gonna be brutally honest here, I am prejudiced towards people of Asian and Indian descent, at a subconscious level.....I consciously try to be inclusive of them, but when you're raised in a community that didn't really have any non-caucasian people in it, it can be a struggle.

This'll be prejudice by some people's standards, but I don't really think of transgender women as real women. It isn't out of malice and I wouldn't deny them their legal rights or treat them rudely or anything. Just being honest.

I am well aware of my prejudice towards Chinese people (not Chinese ethnicity, but native Chinese nationals living in the UK) but I can't shake it anyway, because every time I encounter them they absolutely prove to be a complete, inconsiderate nuisance to those around them.

Japanese people are proper cool though

Yeah, as soon as I find out someone my age is from an actively religious family and they don't hate the church with a burning passion I start thinking about whether or not they are bigots who managed to avoid bigoty topics so far.

Also every time I come in contact with American tourists I want to off myself.

Well, yeah. Im a white dude living in England. I rationally deconstruct them and learn from them when I think such things.

EDIT: tbh the 'taking photos of everything' is more a material condition of modern society, has nothing to do with tourism so much as it's something most everyone does on auto.

I don't recall seeing non-asian tourists taking photos of my tent or taking photos of a plate of watermelon when I was in Europe......

Oh, I think it's more to do with WHAT they take photos of.

For example, visiting the Trevi fountain in Rome, people there taking a million photos of it.
Turn to my left, and there is an asian gentleman videoing chestnuts being cooked on a hot plate.

What does he do, go home to his family and say, "I had a great time in Rome, here's some chestnuts"

well chestnuts are delicious

i look forward to christmas time just bc they sell them in vendors

and then i film them

srs tho there are entire libraries worth of books exploring why ppl do this stuff it's nothing new + statues, landmarks etc always get a look in. Sontag wrote about this in Plato's Cave, saying the photo offers indisputable evidence that "the program was carried out, that fun was had"

Jesus....calm down man......

Then again, that's the impression I get with a lot of Indian people. I lived in an apartment block that was loaded with Indian immigrants, and it was always dirty, dirty nappies and broken shit lying everywhere, mould growing on walls....you name it.

I've had a lot of experience with Chinese nationals and they just seem to have no respect for their surroundings or anyone they live with or around.

British Chinese are 100% fine, same as any other people really because they are well adjusted to our standards. Chinese Nationals do not integrate into communities at all and thus seem to live like they do back home.

First year of uni I shared a flat with a couple of Chinese students. They would not tidy up after themselves, they'd use my cutlery and plates and leave it unwashed. They leave cooked food sitting around in pans at room temperature for days. This happened to my friends with their Chinese flatmates too.

Had similar, but different problems with Chinese neighbours. They're a family who just won't shut up at any time of night and won't answer the door to dicuss things.

Tourists say the big cities are digusting and filthy in the country too. That's just my impression and it's hard not to be prejudiced when every experience you have of a nationality has been negative.

Have you looked at the definition of prejudice?

I know that when a lot of people see fat person, they automatically think, stupid, lazy, smelly etc.....that's prejudice right there.

It's more thinking they're lazy and gross and don't take care of their bodies, which is true since otherwise they wouldn't be fat. It's not pre-judging when the evidence jiggles before you.

Like a big bowl of jelly, but I know people who pre-judge fat people and assume that they are stupid because they don't look after themselves.

That's uncalled for because many fat people are smart, like William Howard Taft. It may constitute prejudice. Much like a fat chick in jeans, it's a bit of a stretch but I'll accept it

Asians taking photos of everything doesn't really bother me unless I'm at a gallery and they're taking photos of paintings because at that point they're passing a certain threshold of stupidity that I can't stand anymore and because generally they make it hard for the rest of us to move from painting from painting.

Though I may be biased because I'm tall and blonde so they've wanted to take photos of me a few times and I was just like

Americans on the other hand... even if you leave out the annoying speech mannerisms and loudness, I've learned that once you put an American in a highly populated area like a queue or a museum it's like leaving the TV on, switched to the 'my opinions on everything' channel.

I was just in Paris and went to the catacombs which is a hotspot for tourists of course. I've never in my life seen such a loud, daft and disrespectful bunch of young adults who claim to be studying scientific fields in university (I know because they wouldn't shut up about it of course).

You're standing amidst the bones of 6 million deceased for fucks sake, the French word for silence is the same as in English and you shouldn't need signs to tell you not to touch the goddamn bones or lean on them when you're taking selfies for your Facebook profile picture.

And don't even get me started on yanks at the Louvre.

I wept for humanity the day I visited the Louvre and saw the Mona Lisa.
There was one lady in front of me, blocking the view (she was wider than a barn) who pulled out not one, not two, but four iPhones from her pocket and took a shitload of selfies, and she kept yelling at people for getting in between her porky cheeks and the painting.

I just feel they spend far too much of their time there.

It's a prejudice, it doesn't have to be built on logic.
