I'm in an Alternative Two piece band (Guitar/Vocals and Drums) and i'm looking at a new head. I have about 400 pounds in the UK, so please don't recommend anything I can't get over here for that price- I'm happy to buy second hand.

The music is 'grunge' 90s influenced Rock- specifically influenced by Nirvana, Pixies, Placebo and Soundgarden, among many others. I need a new head which is louder than my Fender Vaporiser combo as it is just not loud enough. Anything 20 watts and above should do the trick.

My band's Facebook page is here - https://www.facebook.com/TerrorpinBand

There is a picture of my pedalboard on there as well as a video with my current sound (quality is shit but you can get the idea)

Cheers.

Not sure what access to older peavey amps is like over the pond - but a Peavey VTM would be right up your alley if you can find one. Should be relatively cheap as well. Alice in Chains used them for a period of time.
Gear: Gibson Les Paul Studio, Gibson SG Special, Fender Stratocaster, Fender Telecaster, Fender Jazzmaster, Gretsch Pro Jet, Carvin C350, Epiphone ES-339 P90, Epiphone ES-335 Pro. Peavey 6505, Sovtek MIG-100, Vox AC30, Peavey XXX.

Look for an Orange, a new Tiny Terror or similar. With an OD I'm sure it'll do what you want.

Yeah, I'd say a dual terror or dual dark would be ideal.

Clue: amplifiers amplify so don't turn it on if you need quiet.

I do play cleans in some sections, and 15 watts is not much louder than 12, which I currently have. A dual Terror may do the trick?

I'm more of a fuzz user, I very rarely use a distortion/od over a fuzz. The signal is this -

Fender Jaguar HH Special (Alchemist 90 and Seymour Duncan JB) / Gibson Les Paul into

Pitchblack/ Nano Big Muff / Boss Mega Distortion (used for like 1 song which has power chords and has the bass set to max) / Vox Trike Fuzz / Boss Super Chorus / Phase 90 / TC Flashback x4

Into Fender Vaporizer

What about a Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister 18, or a Blackstar HT Studio 20?

Bit of a nostalgic suggestion but, if you happen to come across, how bout a Fender Princeton (the ss version) and a Boss Blues Driver. Back in the day, I got some pretty sweet, sludgy, grungy tone using that set up. I'm not so sure you could beat it, for the money, if you happen to come across one.
Fender Mustang/Derfenstein DST> Boss Power Wah> Pedal Monsters Klone> Bogner Uberschall> Walrus Audio Janus> Randall RM20> Line 6 M9> Randall RM20

Get the Dual Terror if you want cleans

OR just back down on the volume knob?

I don't get on with SS amps one bit but thanks for the suggestions. I think I'm leaning towards the Dual Terror for sure.

I should mention I use an octave fuzz for the most part of the set, I'm not looking for a more stereotypical grunge, sludge tone. I mainly use riffs with the octave engaged.

Here's a video of our rehearsal, shitty quality but the basis of the tone is there. It needs to be louder and heavier. I think the Dual Terror would be great but I know little about it. What's the headroom like? A light crunch is fine at gigs but I don't want full on distortion like i get from cranking my vaporiser.
